Save time on assignment creation in Teams with new AI tools

An exciting new addition has landed at Microsoft Teams to help teachers save time on creating assignments and take them to a whole new level – AI for Assignment Instructions.

You can find this new feature in Assignment in Teams. To get started, just create an assignment in the same way as you usually would in Teams.

How to use AI for Assignment instructions in Teams

1. Go to Assignments in Teams and hit Create > New Assignments.
2. Add the title to your assignment.
3. Create basic instructions in the instructions area – a couple of sentences of what you want the assignment to be about and any key information you would like to be included.
4. As you type, the following AI options will appear:

• Add detail
• Add steps
• Add sparkle
• Add learning objective
• Clarify concepts

Tip: Before using the AI options, be sure to check Settings to set your class grade level and language.

What can you do with AI for Assignment instructions in Teams

Add detail: Expands on the concepts you outlined in your instructions using the current text.

Add steps: Creates clear steps based on your current text.

Add sparkle: Adds emojis and brightens everything up.

Add learning objective: Suggests learning objectives for your assignment.

Clarify concepts: Outlines the key concepts for your assignment.

Simplify: Makes the current text easier to read.

Emphasise key concepts: Picks out key concepts and highlights them in bold.

Once you’re happy with your instructions, you can finish off setting up your assignment by adding any attachments or resources to it. Don’t forget to add any additional details such as hand in dates, grading requirements and any other important details that you will find on the right-hand side page.

When you’re ready, hit Assign. And just like that a new assignment created in minutes.
