Save the Last of South Africa's Rhinos: Urgent Call for Legislative Action

South Africa’s rhinos are in crisis. Over 10,000 rhinos have been slaughtered by poachers since 2010, and the country’s remaining rhino population teeters on the brink of extinction. Despite the ongoing massacre, very few poachers or traffickers are ever held accountable or imprisoned, leaving the door open for wildlife criminals to continue their devastating work with impunity.
Rhino warriors, brave individuals fighting to protect these majestic animals, are being gunned down in the streets and even in front of their families by powerful criminal syndicates. These syndicates have become increasingly brazen in their pursuit of rhino horn, which is valued higher than gold on the black market.
A Call to the South African Government
The current situation demands immediate, meaningful action from the South African government. We are calling on Minister of Environment Dr Dion George and Deputy Minister Narend Singh to introduce stronger legislation that will effectively deter wildlife crime.
The current laws are simply not enough. Without severe consequences, poachers and traffickers are emboldened to continue their attacks. We must create a legal framework that not only punishes these criminals but also prevents future bloodshed. The end game must be to stop the slaughter of South Africa's rhinos and protect the people who dedicate their lives to defending them.
Why This Matters
Rhinos are a critical part of South Africa's biodiversity and cultural heritage. Losing them would mean more than just the extinction of a species — it would be a national tragedy. Our campaign, Save the Last of South Africa's Rhinos, in partnership with Saving the Wild and the Jane Goodall Institute 'Roots & Shoots', seeks to galvanize the people of South Africa and the global community to demand that the government takes this crisis seriously.
We are making progress behind the scenes, but we need tens of thousands of signatures to prove that this is the will of the people. We cannot allow criminal syndicates to continue operating unchecked, and we cannot afford to lose more rhinos — or the heroes who protect them.
