Young Carers Awareness Day (YCAD) is a national day of recognition for the 700,000 young carers in the UK and is hosted by Carers Trust, the UKs largest charity for carers.

This is the day, 26th January 2017, where everyone recognises the challenges that young carers face and looks at ways in which we can help young carers to overcome them.

Did you know……

  • Over 50% of young carers struggle to do their homework
  • 26% of young carers are bullied specifically about their caring role
  • Young carers typically miss up to 48 days of school a year because of their caring role
  • Young carers consistently under achieve at GCSE compared to their counterparts

We want people to understand how difficult it can be for young carers to realise their hopes and dreams for the future unless they have the right support in place.

This year's theme is 'When I grow up' and it's all about helping young carers to achieve their dream jobs or career, and we want everyone to be a part of it.

We'll be highlighting how some of the 1 in 12 students in every classroom are caring for someone at home who is sick, disabled, has a mental health or substance misuse issue and how it is impacting their lives.
