The Savage Reality of Business
Yeah I know, it's a grandma ripping you a fresh middle finger.
Now that I caught your attention with savage grandma, let's talk about the cold hard truth.
Business is a savage game. For many companies it's a dog it dog, grind to the bone type of game. I personally do not agree with it, but I'm not naive to this unfortunate reality. From kids in sweatshops to patent infringers, the whole gamut is out to play. One thing you need to know is that you do not have to "play the game", but you can create your own. To create your own, you must be aware of what you are stepping into as a business owner.
People will probably be out to get you (and know not literally following you to take your life) but they may be out to take your clients, profits, and ideas. Just the other day an acquaintance of mine just had his entire sales script from one of his ads ripped off by another advertising provider WORD FOR WORD, lol. You can't make this stuff up.
At this time on earth people tend to operate out of fight or flight in business. It's one of the reasons I think business at a corporate level has become so corrupted. The idea of profits over people, quantity over quality, and getting deals done at all costs has really caused us to act like cavemen. For being so sophisticated technologically we are so spiritually/morally young.
I really wanted to write this because I've just seen a lot of people get burned. From deals that are signed to deposits that are never sent, to inventors being held knife at the throat (its a metaphor) by big entities for their creations. The USPTO in itself has endured a lot of lobbying and "legal editing" aka cheating that favors large entities over small ones. I personally learned a great deal about the USPTO from Pat Choate's book "Saving Capitalism ", in which Pat brought many great ideas to the table to solve these moral issues we are experiencing with capitalism. To be clear, I'll side with capitalism over any other financial model that's currently available. The problem isn't the general model, it's that the people who run the model seem to often be bribed and side with large multi-conglomerate entities.

For example, Pat laid out a few cases in history where law and regulation were changed that turned the favor from small entity inventors to the big guys, we call them the "Big 15. In Chapter Four, titled "Innovation" I learned of many instances where the small guys were unfortunately gridlocked by the "law" that was supposed to protect them in the first place.
There was a point in time when small entity inventors were the backbone of innovation in the states, but as time progressed the system became corrupt. Pat's book opens up the door to a slew of cases and instances where our own government let in other countries on the low and gave them access to patents and IP for certain protections and access to their advancements and political support. If you want a FULL breakdown, get Pat's book you won't regret it. Specifically on page 120, Pat lay's out what occurred in the late 80s to 90s during the Clinton campaign when they got cozied up with Japan's government and allowed them to influence the United States patent law for their benefit ??.
This is just one example of the savagery that occurs in modern-day business. I don't want to detract people from going into business, because it's important that we innovate and do it well. We just all have to realize that like kids on the playground their are a handful of fully grown adult bullies that want what you have and will do anything it takes to get it if it adds to their bottom line.
