Saturday, March 14th Battleship IOWA Update

IOWA Family:

The Board of Directors and Leadership Team thanks everyone for their outpouring of love and support during this challenging time for the Battleship IOWA Museum and crew. Numerous members of the public and crew have donated and continue to send messages of support. Thank you!

Our sincere appreciation to the graciousness and support that the staff members affected by this closure have shown. You are all a class act!

A brief update:

-We continue to actively monitor health advisories to stay attuned to the evolving situation. This will help us formulate our strategies going forward.Volunteers have shown up in force to help and support! Thank you!

-The Operations Team has been working on reducing the power consumption of the ship by isolating circuits for critical needs including cathodic protection and technology core. Once this is in place, we expect a reduction in our power bill while continuing to protect the ship from the harsh sea water environment and landside intruders.

-The Technology Team has been working on isolating the critical equipment necessary for power reduction to ensure we maintain fire, security, and server function.

-The Security Team showed up to assist in guest services and overall security today. Thank you for your work, as I am certain you are politely working with unhappy visitors on our closure.

-The Tour and Education Team are working on shifting or confirming pre-arranged tours and programs to do our best to accommodate their needs while remaining in compliance with public health directives.

-The Leadership Team has begun conversations regarding a March 28th reopening including a tightened policy of social distancing, disinfecting, and tour changes to ensure the safety of both our crew and guests. We will do our best to keep you updated on a regular basis in the following days.

Your contributions and support will go a long way to soften the financial impact to the Battleship IOWA Museum. Please consider donating any amount you feel comfortable with.

Thank you IOWA Family and we will keep you updated!
