on City of Water Day, Saturday, July 15
The Waterfront Alliance's City of Water Day is free family-oriented celebration of the water that surrounds us. LILAC is part City of Water Day In Your Neighborhood activities at Hudson River Park's Pier 25 this Saturday.
Learn the mariner's skill of knot-tying in the Ward Room with Barry from 10:30 to 12:30. He will occasionally stop to demonstrate scrimshaw, the sailor's art of carving on bone.
Listen to Captain Mary read maritime story books on the buoy deck at 11:30 and 1:30. Stories will include Fireboat by Maira Kalman and Lightship by Brian Floca.
Depart through the buoy port for a ride on the fireboat JOHN J HARVEY at 2:30 (reservations required for one-hour harbor tour) or 3:45 (unreserved one-way trip to Pier 66),
On the pier, Hudson River Park educators will offer fishing lessons and other environmental demonstrations from 11:00 to 3:00.
