No matter how he tries, and he tries, and he tries, and he TRIES, the Rolling Stones’ frontman, Mick Jagger, just can’t get no satisfaction.?I think I just may have a potential solution for Mick (and for us all).
Nature, as well as our own experience, shows us that whenever we CHASE something, it runs away…which is why the outdoor sports are called “fishing” and “hunting” rather than “catching” and “killing.”
So I propose this: instead of pursuing satisfaction as your goal (the end), try recognizing, feeling, and expressing GRATITUDE (the means).
Brendon Burchard, recognized as one of the top mindset/performance coaches in the world today, says it this way,
“We’ll never reach the next level of success until we fully appreciate our current level. Why would the universe (God) give you more if you are not grateful for what you already have?”
Whenever I take my focus off of my “need” for satisfaction (or anything else), it indicates an inner belief that I’m missing something, that I don’t have enough, or worse yet, that I’m not enough.
But when I focus on the blessings I already have (and AM) — right here, right now — as well as all of the countless blessings I’ve received over the course of my life, a very interesting and ironic thing results:
SATISFACTION!
As I was contemplating and discussing the profound benefits of gratitude with some friends recently, this thought came to me:
Gratefulness produces GREAT fullness!
You’re welcome, Mr. Jagger!

5 个月Well said Joseph. We all choose what type of day we are going to have. In other words, you can be miserable because your feeling of lack or what you don’t have. Or, you can have an amazing day and be grateful for what you have. The choice is ours.

5 个月That's why I would argue we should delete some phrases from our vocabulary that leave us feeling empty, like "finding purpose", "chasing the good life", "fighting for dreams". And exchange them with phrases like you suggested Joseph "pursuing a good life" or "embracing the life journey".

5 个月I truly admire your insightful perspective on the pursuit of satisfaction and how you’ve connected it to the profound concept that gratitude can lead to what you cleverly term 'GREAT fullness.' This viewpoint resonates deeply with me on a personal level. It’s genuinely refreshing to consider success and fulfillment through this unique lens, which suggests that perhaps Mick could finally discover that elusive sense of satisfaction he’s been seeking all along. In a world where success is often measured by external achievements, your emphasis on internal gratitude as a pathway to true contentment offers a compelling narrative. Such an approach encourages us all to reflect on what really matters and embrace a mindset of thankfulness that could ultimately transform our experience of life and achievement. Mick, with this newfound understanding, might indeed find himself reaching levels of contentment and satisfaction he never imagined possible!
