The satisfaction of doing it on your own…

The satisfaction of doing it on your own…

Maybe the title is a little bit miss leading… as anything achieved in business is NEVER on your own and is (in my case anyway) absolutely down to a fantastic team, loyal customers base and flexible suppliers that we have in our business.

The satisfaction is growing and nurturing something from the start, the journey, from concept to reality and turning it into something is remarkable. Something you can be proud of and embarking on the journey for the right reasons and not out of greed, or to line arrogant individuals’ pockets, but to support friends, family, customers and fantastic suppliers.

I spent 95% of my employed life dreaming about one day walking into a business that I can call my own. My own creation and brand and putting down the foundations of a company that can underpin raw talent and people’s careers and give all that works within the wall’s great opportunity and development experience for the future. Somewhere every single member feels valued and more importantly understands the part they play in the organisation and where they truly will make a difference along the way. An exciting business and a career for life!

That is certainly my story with Guru Technology. This month marks our 1st business birthday and a chance to reflect somewhat on the last 12 months and the journey we have been on.

Starting the business from my dining room table with a very limited budget and the idea of creating the most flexible, customer centric telecoms company in the UK. Putting the power back in the consumers hands and away from huge “bully boy ” tactic vendors. A place where staff can be proud to work and have fun and feel great about themselves. A place where customers are loyal and treated with respect, and staff see the extra mile road as being the staple standard to how we manage our suppliers and customers alike and not something to do every now and then.

Planning took months and months. Supply chain management, business planning, financial planning, forecasting, gaining feedback from the market that I knew so well, after over 10 years in telco.

Its been a super tough road so far, but a very rewarding experience that I would not change, especially starting the business purposely with a very modest budget. Keeping costs low, whilst delivering exceptional service levels and hiring and searching for the best people who believe in our story. Selling to survive in the very early days and working until the early hours most days per week to make sure the business delivers on its promises and over exceeds customer expectations from the get-go!

Starting in this manner, with the right ethics has meant we have been making the right choices with our suppliers, staff, and customers putting us in a very strong position through COVID-19. It is important for me that they are always at the forefront of our minds when we are making decisions and where we can, involve employees in this decision making process.

We have continued to evolve and are now supporting more customers and end users than ever and have seen extraordinary growth on our user base, headcount, product solutions and deliverables in the past 3-6 months.

During this COVID-19 period we have accomplished a lot from a sales, operational and strategic perspective and are a business absolutely on the up!

The greatest satisfaction for me is seeing basic elements like honesty, work ethic, attitude, high morals, and trust out way “easy” options of greed and selfishness. During this COVID-19 period with everyone under the microscope a little more, I think it’s been very easy to see who has been operating with the right morals and obligations and who hasn’t. It is becoming ever more important to hold these positive aspects close and at uphold their values each and every day, as part of our business obligatory standards

On behalf of the business and myself, thank you to all our valued customers, suppliers and employees and here’s to you and the next 12 months!
