We were thrilled last month to reach our first birthday!

As the SASHA Coalition turns one, we reflect on what we're most proud of in helping this ambitious coalition of shipping and aviation companies flourish in the last year. Read our thoughts here.

To sum up just some of our achievements, since last year we have:

• Grown to a coalition of seven?ambitious shipping and aviation companies at the forefront of decarbonising their sectors.
• Published our flagship report The Green Hydrogen Gap as well as seven?factsheets and roadmaps on green hydrogen's role in decarbonising shipping and aviation.
• It's been a busy few months with a full schedule of speaking events. A couple of weeks ago our EU Policy and Coalition Consultant Martijn Pakker?spoke at?Sustainable Aviation Futures' SAF Congress about ensuring the shift to SAF in aviation focuses on green-hydrogen derived fuels over less sustainable alternatives. Last month SASHA Director Aoife O'Leary spoke at the?Sustainable Skies World Summit?and our Policy Officer Nuala Doyle at the UK Business Innovate SAF Cafe webinar. On 7th May we heard from industry leaders and policymakers on 'How decarbonising shipping and aviation will boost UK green growth'?–?if you didn't catch it at the time, watch back the recording below.

Our five key takeaways were:

1. There is a clear need for effective industrial and infrastructure policy to set out sensible regulations that give investment confidence across the entire sector in both aviation and shipping.
2. Our panellists called for greater clarity from government when it comes to the fuels that will help to decarbonise their sectors and spoke about using a merit order to promote the use of green hydrogen.?
3. One of the fundamental challenges highlighted was the source of renewable electricity that isn’t currently available in the national grid.?
4. When it comes to economic competitiveness, the discussion focused on the need for international alignment, especially as both aviation and shipping are incredibly internationally complex and networked.??
5. The opportunities that green hydrogen development can bring for economic and job growth are huge. If the UK develops leading hydrogen-aircraft capability, for example, the UK could up its market share from currently around 13% to 18% of a potential ￡34 billion industry by 2050.?

SASHA in the News

Last month we wrote a letter to the Financial Times demonstrating why the recent UK SAF Mandate does not go far enough. Our CEO Aoife was also featured in this interview with?Energy Digital Magazine?and wrote an op-ed in Euractiv about why MEPs need to put green hydrogen high on the agenda after the upcoming EU elections.

The Zero Emissions Maritime Buyers Alliance (ZEMBA) has released a call for information from actors across the maritime value chain here! ZEMBA works to accelerate commercial deployment of zero-emission (ZE) shipping solutions, enable economies of scale for freight buyers and suppliers, and help cargo owners maximise emissions reduction potential beyond what any one freight buyer could accomplish alone.Fill in the survey by 21st June here.
