SASE - Sustainable And Responsible, Next Generation Security

Secure Access Service Edge (SASE)

Modern, edge-based security is built into SD-WAN with SASE. Delivered from the cloud, it handles the many security connections needed, with users and applications connecting from many locations at once. SD-WAN and SASE easily secure high volumes of branch locations and home workers, eliminating the need for costly firewalls and configuration. SASE offers security as a service that integrates directly into the network and is centrally managed. Via cloud, access, sessions, users, and end devices can be monitored via the SD-WAN portal. SASE is a flexible collection of software components that can be curated and combined to meet each business's unique requirements.

Why choose a software-defined network?

Key to the success of any business is openness to innovation. Without it you'll miss opportunities, and worse, leave your business exposed to cyber attacks or security vulnerabilities. SD-WAN and SASE allows your business to embrace new ways of working, allowing you to drastically reduce the time and effort needed to react to new requirements and stay ahead. With logic defined in a central software layer, you can develop, test and distribute services much more quickly, allowing you to truly embrace innovations such as IoT, Edge Computing or Augmented/Mixed Reality.

Next generation security

Your legacy network, by necessity, likely uses security measures designed to work with the traditional hub-and-spoke architecture. This means that a successful cyber attack affecting the hub has the power to affect your entire network and user base. SASE works seamlessly with your distributed architecture to create efficient and decentralised security. This reduces obvious targets for attacks and localises any impacts.

Advantages of decentralised security

SASE is very scalable since it is provided as a service from the cloud. Guidelines and updates can be managed centrally and rolled out across the ecosystem. This means that your IT doesn't need to slow down rapid growth, since new applications and hardware can be protected rapidly. New best practice or compliance updates can be quickly defined and pushed out across the network. Patches and updates can be automated, freeing up your skilled IT resource.

Fast and reliable

Software Defined Networks will give your business high performance and stability.?To maintain your competitive edge, your network must perform better when you add users and applications.?SD-WAN's performance management can be relied upon.?Optimisation is achieved through a central view of all traffic across your network, which is then automatically prioritised in real time based on giving preference to particular types of transactions or applications.?Using performance SLAs and QoS specifications, you can rid your network of wasteful and costly latency or jitters. Your network performance is automatically monitored, making it possible to identify and fix problems instantly.

Built-in efficiency

New end devices can be added easily in the data centre and across your user base. New software and applications can be delivered and configured quickly with minimal admin effort, thanks to automation carefully created for this purpose, and augmented with AI.

You'll gain efficiency because employees can get started faster, with new users set up in minutes, or new software delivered automatically. And your department will run more effectively, with automated central orchestration using minimal manual intervention.

A detailed security focus is essential for SASE

Modernising your network may be driven by security.?Cyberattacks have affected nearly 90% of businesses in the last few years. This is in addition to increased attention being paid to data security in regulated industries. Safety is of paramount importance.

SASE?instantly and dramatically improves your network security

SD-WAN inherently improves performance, but it introduces many more connections to cloud, since it is decentralised. Along with?these connections come entry points for viruses and malware. So to really improve the safety of your infrastructure, you need to be able to implement up-to-date security processes to match your modern infrastructure.

Secure Access Service Edge or "SASE", is the solution

Gartner defines SASE in 2019. It includes the following elements:

Identity Based

Using the identity of your users, regardless of where they are, or what device they're using, security authorisation is tailored to individuals.

Cloud Native

SASE works directly with cloud so well because it shares important characteristics with cloud applications - scalability, flexibility and future proofing.

Connected Endpoints

Creating a single network, even for giant multinational enterprises, incorporating data centres, branches, remote sites and mobile users.

Available Globally

Ensuring all security and network functionality is available to all users and locations worldwide.

Modern day security risks

Network ecosystems that look after our world

Deutsche Telekom takes caring for our planet seriously.?Since 2021, all of our 291 million customers have been using networks powered by 100% renewable energy. We'll consistently reduce other emissions from oil, gas and other energy sources by up to 95% by 2025. And we're working to offset the remaining 5% with high quality carbon removal projects.

Reducing carbon footprint

Our network technologies and data centres are key to our business and we are constantly investing in increasing their efficiency. We're improving the energy management in our buildings and have clear CO2 limits set for our company fleet.

Our virtualised services save power, raw materials, and space. Our central control and rollout processes mean our carbon footprint - and yours - is lessened significantly due to fewer technician trips.

Sustainable, responsible and supporting your organisation's green ambitions.
