SAS Veteran calls for Australian Governor General to honour ADF service!

A Statement by Warrant Officer Class 1 (Retd) Kerry Danes, CSM

As a member of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) Veteran community, I am personally appealing to the Governor General of the Commonwealth of Australia, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), to stop the revocation of the Meritorious Unit Citation from over 3000 ADF Personnel who served in Afghanistan with distinction. This action is harmful to both the mental health, reputation and future employability of those men and women, who have no connection, whatsoever, to the findings proposed by the Brereton Report.

As a former member of the Special Air Service Regiment (SASR), I give my full support to our current serving members of SASR, and to whom the SAS Veteran Community are extremely proud of. I am personally, however, appealing to the Australian Prime Minister, to stop the collective punishment that is shamelessly being forced upon all of us who served in SASR, by allowing the Chief of Army to remove 2 Squadron from the SASR Order of Battle. Such actions serve to create an enduring negative legacy of our Unit's history, and is harmful to the future employability of SASR Veterans who have no connection, whatsoever, to the findings proposed by the Brereton Report.

It’s a shame when the disappointing actions of a few reflect on the brave actions of an overwhelming majority. As a police officer I’ve seen this roo many times.
