SARS-CoV-2 infection in asymptomatic children
The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic showed us that not all wastewater is pure waste. Indeed, it may be a powerful tell-tale for the development of infection among the general population. Associate Professor Mitsuko Seki Meikai and Nihon Universities, Japan, and her team have taken us a step further. Using carefully collected wastewater samples from the pediatric dental clinic, she showed how these samples could tell us about asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infections in children. Such insights may inform us better on the risk of spreading this infection from unsuspected carriers to people at risk for severe disease, including the aged population.
