Saraki’s Trial: Supreme Court Vindicates Saraki 1,018 Days After
Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, blamed his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) on his emergence as the President of the Senate.
Saraki, by his position as Senate President, also doubles as the Chairman of the National Assembly.
His allegation comes shortly after he was discharged of all 18 charges brought against him by the Federal Government.
The travails of the Number Three man in Nigeria began in September 22, 2015, three months after there was an alleged political calculation by some Senators elected under the platform of the PDP that voted Saraki as David Mark’s successor.
Recall that his emergence as President during the inauguration of the Eight Assembly in June was against the position of his party, the ruling All Progressives Congress.
The intriguing part of it in Nigeria’s democratic history since the return to civil rule in 1999 has Saraki, a member of the APC as President and his Deputy, Senator Ike Ekweremadu is of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.
Respite however came for the Senate President on Friday when the Supreme Court being the highest in the land, dismissed the entire 18 charges brought against Saraki by the Federal Government and consequently discharged and acquitted the Senate President accordingly.
Some argue that it is now a crime to nurse some political ambitions especially when it goes against the wishes of some powerful cabals often referred to as godfathers in politics.
When this is happening to Saraki, the third in command after President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, what then lies the fate of an ordinary Nigerian?
