Undeterred, Sara leveraged her communication skills, honed during her sales stint, to convince her own family to invest $5,000. This initial seed money, combined with relentless research and product development, gave birth to Spanx.
The first hurdle crossed, and Sara faced the daunting task of manufacturing. With no prior experience in the garment industry, she meticulously studied the process, visiting factories across the US and ultimately settling on a North Carolina-based manufacturer. Her relentless attention to detail and focus on quality control paid off. The early batches of Spanx were a revelation – comfortable, flattering, and invisible under clothing.
But building a brand was another battle. Sara tapped into her sales expertise, personally calling department stores and boutiques. Initially met with rejection, her persistence paid off. A small boutique in Atlanta agreed to stock a limited quantity. Within days, the first shipment sold out. Word of mouth, fueled by satisfied customers, spread like wildfire.
