SAPTCO Rolls Out Cutting-Edge Electric Bus in Jeddah

Saudi Arabia has taken a major step towards reducing its carbon emissions with the launch of its first electric public transport bus in Jeddah. The high-efficiency bus can travel up to 300 km on a single charge, consuming less than 10% of electricity compared to other electric buses.

Operated by SAPTCO, the modern passenger buses will serve Jeddah's public transport routes, offering residents in areas such as Khalidiyah, Rowdah, and Baghdadiyah a convenient mode of transportation. The bus will travel along the A7 route that connects Khalidiyah and Balad, passing through Prince Saud Al Faisal Street and Madinah Road.

The launch was attended by Rumaih Al Rumaih, Acting Chairman of the Public Transport Authority (PTA), the Mayor of Jeddah Governorate, Saleh Al Turki, and President of SAPTCO, Khaled Al Hogail. During the ceremony, Dr. Al Rumaih highlighted the progress Saudi Arabia has made in the transportation sector, including the use of clean fuels, with the aim of reducing emissions by 25%.

In line with its goal to address traffic congestion and reduce carbon emissions, the PTA and Jeddah Mayoralty are planning to launch electric public transport services in medium-sized cities such as Jazan, Sabya, and Taif this year. This will be followed by the launch in Al Ahsa and other cities, with the ultimate goal of reducing carbon emissions in transportation by 45% as per the Kingdom's Vision 2030 plan.
