SAP Learnings - #13

Dear all,

Today’s discussion will revolve around Quality Management in SAP.

When a material enters the premises, who decides whether the material is of the expected quality to serve its intended purpose? You got it right, the user department.

But how do we know whether the material requires a quality check and how is it configured in SAP? There could be materials like pencils, milk, chocolates, Dettol etc. On the other hand, there is also a possibility that material types like ERSA(stores and spares), FERT(finished goods) whose quality must be tested?

Every material for which?inspection setup?is enabled in the material master, goes through the quality inspection process. Under inspection setup, there are various?inspection types?such as 01 for GR against procurement, 02 against production order and so on. So, it’s done then? I just tick the Inspection setup box, choose the type and the material automatically goes into quality inspection? There’s the catch. There is one more thing that we need to know.?Post inspection stock?needs to be enabled for the generation of inspection lot. Refer the screenshot below.

What is the risk?

??? Possibility that materials that must be quality tested have bypassed the quality inspection. Even if inspection setup is enabled, then possibility that post inspection stock has not been ticked leading to non-generation of inspection lot.

?? Lack of quality inspection will lead to poor quality of goods procured, thus affecting the efficiency of the entity.

?How can we verify this?

??? In SE16N, import table QMAT. Inspection type and Post procurement stock will be available against each material in this table.

?? From the material master, identify materials that require quality inspection based on the nature of the business of the client and ensure that all those materials have been enabled with the correct Inspection type and post inspection stock has also been enabled. If not, those are your exceptions.?

Thanks for reading!

Until next time..

Signing off,?
