What's your Corporate Carbon Footprint?

How to setup a CCF with SAP S/4HANA and SAP Analytics Cloud

Global crises, like the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian war against Ukraine, are temporarily masking the possibility that mankind may not be able to limit global warming to 1.5°C or even to 2°C. What seems to be a concern at first sight could actually be a starting point for more action initiated by companies as opposed to it being enforced by country legislations. Companies in competition with each other cannot just increase prices – they need to significantly improve productivity in order to balance out the negative effects of broken supply chains, inflation and high energy costs that result from these crises. Energy saving measures and decarbonization can therefore become one of the main drivers for improved productivity, while indirectly fighting global warming.

Seeing the crisis as a challenge and an opportunity to outperform competition, companies can start their decarbonization journey with the clear target to be in a better overall position after decarbonization. This approach requires information about energy consumption and carbon emissions in order to determine the powerful and verifiable countermeasures. A corporate carbon footprint needs to be developed, a strategy run and reported on. With a clever approach, these efforts can be kept affordable. Decarbonization measures will pay off – to the benefit of the company and society.

?There are plenty of statistics about CO2 emissions globally e.g., country emissions and regional distribution, timelines with yearly amounts or accumulated views. When it comes to statistics about companies, you might find high-polluting industries or values for certain companies only but not a holistic view on companies and their carbon emissions.

?Starting in 2024, many companies will qualify for carbon reporting under EU regulations (including their Scope 3 emissions). The SEC in US has also announced the rule to include carbon disclosures in the annual reports of public companies & those going public. Governments worldwide are starting to act on Climate issues and the regulations will only get more extensive and stringent over time. Companies that start carbon accounting sooner will be able to have a smoother transition to having carbon accounting becoming as common as financial disclosures.

Real-time insights into yard operations using SAP Yard Logistics & SAC

?Whether trucks are buzzing in & out or waiting for loading/unloading, the "Yard" can be chaos personified. Thankfully, SAP Yard Logistics helps us introduce order in the yard operations. And while it’s doing that, it collects a treasure trove of data made up of logs, timestamps, and tasks. This data contains the hidden insights that could unlock new improvements into your yard operations and maximize productivity. Westernacher YL Insights Dashboard provides you with real-time visibility into your yard operations. The dashboard is powered by SAP Analytics Cloud and covers a rich set of KPIs.

?It includes an Overview page that provides all the key KPIs in Yard Logistics in one place. Then we can further get detailed insights on other areas like Detention, Equipment Handling, Carrier Analysis and Door Utilization.

? Detention: This page shows which vehicles are in the yard along with their location in yard, license plate, carrier, and duration in the yard.

? Equipment Handling: This page captures metrics related to internal movements, planned/unplanned, average time taken etc.

? Carrier Analysis: This page contains metrics related to carriers like average time on site, number of arrivals, percentage of rejected arrivals and performance (comparison with approved arrivals).

? Door Utilization: This page contains metrics related to the dock doors like average load/unloading duration, number of door activities today / per hour, empty containers called-in / not called-in, average duration of door activities etc.

What’s new in SAP Analytics Cloud?

A peek at key updates from Q2 2024 release

It’s raining features in SAP Analytics Cloud Q2 2024 release!

?Here’s a quick summary to catch you up.

?Unified Story Presentation Mode - SAP was serious about the new Unified Story being the single strategic presentation artifact for the future. It combined the usefulness of application designer with the user friendliness of classical stories. Now it has learned some new tricks that bring it a step closer to the Digital Boardroom. The main features like importing story pages, presentation structure and presentation mode customizations are now available along with a brand-new Present Mode.

Integrating KPI tiles in SAP Mobile Start – SAC has always had a great mobile app. But many companies use the SAP Mobile Start to interact with their SAP system on the go. Being able to also monitor their KPIs here would be useful. That’s exactly what this new feature enables. The KPIs can be opened either in the SAC app or a web view within SAP Mobile Start.

?Rank with others – The Top N / Bottom N ranking is one of the most used features in SAC. However, it has so far had a limitation. It could show you the data for the Top N / Bottom N, but wouldn’t give you any indication of how the rest of the data adds up in relation to the Top/Bottom members. This is now possible with the Rank with others where we can group the other members in a single line that will show up in the chart next to the Top/Bottom members allowing the users to put the numbers in context.

?Planning Notifications – Many improvements are part of this, but the one we’re most excited about is the ability to control the delivery of the notifications to choose InApp or via email. Quick selections available to enable/disable all notifications in one go. Default notification settings can be set up by role.

?Data Analyzer PDF Export Improvements – It is now possible to dynamically adjust the column widths to fit a page in the exported PDF document from Data Analyzer.
