SAP Clean Core: why now ?

I remember my first meeting years ago talking about the new topic “Internet-of-things”(IoT), with one of our Customer in the manufacturing industry. It was funny because I remember just after few slides of my presentation my stakeholder raised his hand: <<Hey Guys, you are talking about something new, but I’m doing the same since 15 years>> ?? …and the meeting went well ahead supporting our Customer describing what it means IoT, overall, in the modern market and what was just sensors data ingestion 15 or more years ago.
So, today we have something similar talking about “Clean Core”. And again I remember from the past my first SAP R/3 implementation, in the 1998, where the mantra was: <<Guys, please fit to the standard, avoiding and killing any possible custom solutions>>. But, as we all know, no one was fine in this direction. We was not in line not only on our project, but we all not succeeded in 99,9% of SAP implementations around the world.
And so, from our faults from the past, we are generating a lot of new businesses to transform today on what we have implemented in the past. Why ? Because around the 1998, and in the following years, technology, skills, mindset, and especially Cloud platform was not there, and we were wrong in non-fitting the standard - of course the packages in the past was not exactly the same according what we have today in terms of business coverages out-of-the-box.
Why today we can succeed in Clean Core ?
Because we as @Capgemini have a specific approach in terms of “Composable & Agile Architecture”, what we call “MPSA Multi Pillars SAP Architecture”, we have specific methodology, best practices, assets, knowledge coming from SAP & Hyperscalers certifications: we know what we have out-of-the-box from SAP Packages (may be S/4HANA, Ariba, SuccessFactors, all SAP Products), we have SAP BTP as SAP Cloud Platform to enhance and complement what SAP is not covering 100% with the package, and we have Hyperscalers (mainly Microsoft Cloud, AWS, GCP) where we have all the power and the services required for each and every business needs, according modern business trends.
So, today we have technology, skills, mindset, and especially Cloud platforms and no more excuses to be not there with our goals implementing a Clean Core.
Enjoy ;)

2 年With most SAP customers struggling just to move into S/4 and stabilize processes, how much of an appetite would CIOs and MDs have for taking up a Cloud offering like BTP with its myriad interfaces and services? The “Clean Core” buzzword and its variations sell well but Enterprise teams across industries find it difficult to keep BTP solutions lean and efficient without having to move some of the burden of Solution Design and Build into the Core. OData services don’t work out of the box with S/4 versions older than 2020. I’m not complaining here, just highlighting some challenges that need real answers from the Sales and Engineering teams at SAP.

2 年It is important to message that clean core does not mean non differentiated business. All the differentiation can be built around periphery keeping the core clean and providing all the needed business advantages. Well written blog Gianluca ????
