Sanlam Bridges The Gap In Career Development

The SANLAM/NUST Career Fair 2023 under the theme “Towards Human Centric Innovation and Sustainability” officially launched today, Wednesday, 19 April until 20 April, from 09:00 until 16h00 at the NUST campus, Engineering Basement, adjacent to the School of Engineering. Because Sanlam understands that the choice of a career is undeniably one of the most crucial decisions one makes in life, the company sponsored a total of N$79 000 towards the success of the career fair initiative.

Sanlam recognises that individual have different innate capacities and abilities and hence aptitudes for different kind of work. The purpose of career fairs is to provide career guidance and to match the individuals and the occupation optimally for mutual benefits. Wendy Naruses, Marketing and Communication Manager (Distribution) states that “Career fairs such as this one helps learners to reflect on their interests, visions, ambitions, abilities, qualifications, and so on. This initiative helps learners understand their strengths, weaknesses, and interests, and provide them with a clearer picture of the career paths available to them”. There is a lack of awareness and information about the various career options available for students after passing out of school in Namibia. There is no culture of visiting a career counsellor in the country. This initiative is aimed at bridging this gap. As the global economy becomes increasingly competitive, it is more important than ever for learners to make informed decisions about their careers. Through this partnership Sanlam has made a commitment to make a positive impact on the lives of the Namibian youth as our future leaders, thus creating platforms that will enable growth, sustainability and long-term financial resilience.

Additionally, in an effort to foster financial literacy amongst Namibians, "Sanlam launched an initiative called Financial Wellness education and have committed to providing a financial adviser every Thursday who will be stationed at the University. This will pave the way in exposing more Namibians to the fundamentals of personal financial planning and ultimately enable students and NUST employees to make confident financial decisions, stated Mr Wessel Kotze, Affluent Market Key Account Specialist at the opening ceremony.

Over the next two days we will have a very informative and engaging stall at the Sanlam/NUST Career Fair.

Wendy Naruses, Marketing and Communications Manager (Distribution), added that, “Youth development and Sustainability are two very important elements that contribute to the growth of our economy; therefore, we are honoured to be the main sponsor for this initiative.”

The Career Fair is a free platform available to students and learners, affording them the opportunity to network, gain more practical knowledge in their area of career interest. Sanlam encourages everyone with this need to join us and work towards a better future.
