Sandcastle in Winter
Went to the beach this Winter’s day,
my true love Susan and I to play.
Bought food and wine along the way,
for such a cold and windy day.
The sand was empty far and wide,
no pushy crowds from which to hide,
they all were warm and safe inside,
while on the sand we run and slide.
Cheese to eat and wine to drink,
and some Ritz crackers for a treat.
The wine was good and not too sweet,
Ritz and sharp cheddar cannot be beat.
To show our love had lasting power,
we built a tall sandcastle tower,
but still it looked a little sad,
it lacked a true sandcastle flag.
We thought at first perhaps a sock,
but then of course we both did spot,
that bright orange Ritz cracker box.
Ritz crackers now were castle’s flags,
the towers strong they did not sag,
with ten or more Ritz cracker flags.
But then our castle was attacked,
The seagulls struck and then came back.
Our castle flags the gulls did crunch,
to them our flags were tasty lunch.
And soon our castle was destroyed,
but Susan and I were not annoyed,
we’d had a most successful day,
we’d got to romp and run and play.
So to the gulls we waved goodbye,
as we walked home we watched them fly.
The seagulls now all fed and smug,
my true love she gave me a hug.
And we walked home just hand in hand,
a better day than we had planned.
