Sand is a natural resource found in nature. Sand is a granular powder-like substance found near beaches, deserts, and riverbeds. Sand comprises finely broken rocks and mineral particles. Sand is of coarse size and has various uses in fields like agriculture, art, construction, paints, water filtration, etc.

Sand has multiple types of compositions, but it is defined by its grain size. Sand grains are more petite than gravel and rocks and coarser than silts. Sands vary in shapes and colours depending on the region of their formation.

Properties of sand

Sand is an essential material for any kind of construction. And the best quality of sand must be chosen for the construction, so for that the properties of good quality and should be known, they are as follows.

  • The grains should be sharp and coarse in nature.
  • The sand should be free from clay material and organic matters and should be proper sand.
  • There should be no organic matter mixed with the sands.
  • The grains should be of durable minerals.
  • The sand should be free from sea salts.
  • The gradation of grains size should be such as that it will give lesser voids.
  • It should be clean and free from any sort of clay and silt.
  • It should not contain organic matter.
  • It should be chemically.
  • Sand is loose particles of hard broken rock; it comprises grains from the disintegrated rock.
  • The shape, size, and density of sands are critical when used for construction.
