Sand control solution that’s durable, efficient and wear-resistant

Sand control is vital to reliable production in many sandstone reservoirs where sand can present a major challenge to field or well production. Incremental hydrocarbon loss by choking productivity to manage sand produced to surface is not a desired option as this effects field economics. Flux analysis suggested, with good quality sand control completions, screen erosion was by far the most common screen failure mechanism greatly accelerated by fluid that flowed through the screen with a small amount of fine sand particles. (SPE-84495). In the case of Stand-Alone Screen (SAS) completions, many authors have investigated causes and failure modes, with most of these works concluding that screen erosion is by far the most common failure mechanism. (Bellarby, 2009) (Gillespie and Jones, 2009) (Arukhe, Uchendu and Nwoke, 2005).

These consequences require a radical change in mindset to consider alternative technologies and materials available to address these erosional and corrosion challenges which can be a root cause of non-optimized hydrocarbon recovery.
