Samuel & Co Trader - The Story Of James Thorn

Samuel & Co Trader - The Story Of James Thorn

Interview with James Thorn

I’ve always had an interest in trading the markets but managing my own construction business and the associated stresses with managing employees, contractors and clients made finding the time to study the markets extremely difficult. I went on and learnt a little from various online sources and started live trading shortly after. Before I knew it, I had lost 12k and realised that my trading was without strategy, without direction and without confidence.

In April 2015 I came across Samuel and Co Trading and made the life changing decision to make an application. I went through a three stage stringent interview process and was ecstatic when informed that I had been selected for the Junior Trader Programme. Filled with nerves, trepidation and somewhat dubious I committed to the programme and threw myself into learning something new for the first time since I left school.

Words cannot express how glad I am to have thrown myself into the course and the mindset programme that follows (which in itself is mindblowing!)

After finishing the course I went away and completed the assessment remotely. One week later I sent in my results and was saddened to hear that I had not been successful. Despite this, the team told me that they saw my dedication and encouraged me to keep going.

Shortly after, I received the heart-breaking news that my father had been diagnosed with cancer and required surgery. It soon became clear that he was not going to be able to work again and he had to retire from what was a lucrative role.

That day I vowed to commit everything to Samuel and Co Trading and immerse myself in the world of trading. I ploughed away for a couple of months before committing to hiring a desk on the trade floor. I made it my personal mission to learn the markets, learn from the inspired people on the trade floor and make a success of this new venture.

After just 8 months of trading on the Samuel and Co Trading trade floor I had amassed enough capital to pay off my father’s mortgage, his car payments and provide him with additional capital to ensure he lives a comfortable medically induced retirement.

This would not have been possible had I not taken the step to make that initial application to Samuel and Co Trading. It wouldn’t have been possible without being surrounded by like minded people on an identical path.

The journey has been tough. It has required hard work. It has been relentless. Would I do anything differently? Absolutely not.
