Samsung SDI recently showcased its latest battery technology at the SNE Battery Day show in Seoul, The Elec reported. The company said its first batch of solid-state batteries have been delivered to electric vehicle manufacturers and have been tested for about six months. Samsung SDI vice president said automakers are interested in solid-state batteries because they are smaller, lighter and safer than current electric vehicle batteries. However, he also admitted that solid-state batteries are expensive to produce, so they will initially be mainly used in high-end luxury electric vehicles with a range of more than 600 miles (about 965.61 kilometers). In addition to solid-state batteries, Samsung is also committed to developing cheaper lithium iron phosphate and cobalt-free batteries, as well as dry electrode production processes to expand its share in the more price-competitive electric vehicle market.
In order to stand out in the electric vehicle battery market, Samsung will also launch batteries that take only 9 minutes to charge and battery products with a lifespan of up to 20 years.
