Suggested Format and Content:
Introduction:
- Aims and objectives of the reflective essay. You should state what the essay will address and should define terms that they intend to use where applicable. This should not be an exhaustive list of definitions, maximum 3. The three areas of discussion should also be highlighted within the introduction.
- Ethically introduce your setting using contextual information to provide a background of the setting. Keep in mind your three areas of discussion.
- Address all ethical considerations; use of pseudonyms, Data Protection Guidelines.
Under your introductions should introduce legislation and guidance.
A brief overview of legislation and policy, before narrowing it down into areas. You should show a clear understanding, not just a description.
One or two pieces maximum here. I would advise choosing pieces of legislation or official guidance that introduce equality as a whole as specific legislation will be discussed in the areas of the discussion below for example EPSEN Act and the Salamanca Statement will be discussed in the discussion on Special Educational Needs and Disability discussion. For example, you could introduce legislation such as the UNCRC or the Equality Act

- What legislation and official guidance support equality in this area? Again, going beyond just described here. For example the EPSEN Act, the Disability Act, and the Salamanca Statement
?Next Section:

This is where you should be drawing on relevant reading to show the impact of inequality, discrimination, and bias in this area. This will include the impact of bias and discrimination on identity development. You are also encouraged to include reflections from practice to further illustrate this impact
How do your practice and provision nurture equality in the area of SEN and Disability?
Consider both your practice and your settings environments here. How are equality and inclusion nurtured in regard to SEN and Disability? You should be critical here in order to evaluate your setting in this area. You should address any bias and identify what changes should be made in order to further nurture equality. How does this support the children's learning and development?
?Conclusion:
?It should have no new information. Summarise key findings.
