THE TRUTH
A young woman with dark blue eyes, blond hair and burgundy
streaks of red sits on a fallen log writing in her notebook
in Oregon at night. Jade opens her notebook and begins to
write in her journal with a serious expression on her face.
JADE:
My name is Jade I am twenty years
old. I can’t believe its been four
years now since the event occurred.
Jade clears her throat and begins to softly hum a tune.
JADE:
Anyway I am writing this down in
order to tell those of you who
survive what really happened.
Sighing to herself she continues to write
JADE:
Yes, it reminds those of us who
survived why it is we fight, even
now looking up at the moon a neon
green light that shines down on us
yes, this is the story of how the
world ended and why we now have a
burning sky above us.
Jade turns the page of her notebook and puts her pen to
paper
JADE:
I should start by telling you what
really happened the day that
everything changed.I am going to
start at the very beginning.
THE EVENT
Jade sits at the table across from her brother as there mom
cooks breakfast for the family.
JADE:
I can’t believe it happening today.
Jade shakes her head in disbelief as she sits the paper on
the table in front of her. Edward looks up from his phone
and goes back to watching the screen when he realizes she
was just ranting.

EDWARD:
yeah I know it seems like we just
heard about it a week ago. This
week just flew by.
He says without looking away from the phones screen he’s
watching.
JADE:
Aren’t you excited Eddy?
She squeals happily.
EDWARD:
You realize a big rock is headed
towards earth?
He states sarcastically.
MOM
There is nothing to worry about the
government has promised everyone
that the meteor will break apart
before anything serious can happen.
everything will be fine its just
going to hit the atmosphere and
dissipate.
Mom walks over to the table and sits a plate of food down in
front of her children.
MOM:
Now eat your breakfast and quit
worrying everything will be fine.
EDWARD:
You don’t honestly believe the
government never lies?
He laughs
EDWARD:
Yeah have they found anything out
about area 51 and the spaceship
that crashed.
before anyone else could speak Edward showed his phone to
the table. The screen shows a bunch of people looking at the
sky in anticipation.
EDWARD:
There all crazy no way would I go
stand in the same spot that a
meteor is supposed to hit.

He shakes his head in a disbelieving manner.
JADE:
Knowing your luck Eddy it would
fall and hit you on your head.
Jade laughs and her mom shakes her mom covers her mouth with
her hand in amusement as Edward glares at his sister. Jade
reaches over and takes her older brothers phone before
turning up the volume.
A brunette woman with blue eyes comes on the screen wearing
a long skirt and a white blouse.
WOMAN REPORTER:
We are broadcasting right from the
area where the meteor is supposed
to hit.
She holds the microphone to her lips smiling for the camera.
Suddenly she points to the sky and the camera zooms into the
area she pointed. The camera enhances what looks to be a
small neon green burning ball of fire.
WOMAN REPORTER
As you can see the phenomenon will
happen above where we are standing.
It looks like the whole town is
here and some tourists are here to
see this monumental event.
Camera shows a large number of people, Jade notices a
woman holding signs saying the end is near. Before she
could see her face the camera man scans the area landing on
a small crowd of teenagers,
WOMAN REPORTER:
If we are lucky we may get to see
it hit the atmosphere.
The reporter speaks excitedly as Jade takes the phone and
shuts it off looking excited.
JADE:
I’m going to check it out. Eddy
will you come with me it looks like
the whole town is there?
MOM:
I have a late shift at the hospital
so I won’t be going. I’ll be home
late.
Mom interrupts the conversation and kisses her kids goodbye.

EDWARD:
I guess I have no choice if your
going then I have to.
Edward Sighs.
JADE:
Don’t worry Eddy it will be fun I
promise.
She grins at her brother.
EDWARD:
Yeah sure I bet it will be boring
and dangerous.
JADE:
Oh quit worrying it will be fun
nothing is going to happen.
Jade tosses the small piece of bread at him playfully
before going to her bedroom and dressing quickly leaving
Edward alone with his plate of food.
FADE IN:
ITS HAPPENING
Jade leaves her bedroom and goes into the living room where
her brother is waiting for her.
JADE:
We should hurry it happening soon.
Edward looks at his watch.
EDWARD:
We still have time Jay.
JADE:
No I don’t want to miss anything
besides I am meeting my friend
there.
EDWARD:
Oh come on Jay don’t tell me I am
chaperoning you for a date.
They both leave the house and start walking toward the park
where the event is being held. Neither one of them speek
until they were a block of the park.

JADE:
I wonder what it will be like.
EDWARD:
Nothing special probably just a
rock hitting the outer layer of
earth. I don’t know why this time
is so special.
JADE:
Maybe because its unlike the rest
that have been seen from earth.
Some look like fallen stars but
this one has a green glow. Or at
least that is what I read in the
paper.
Jade laughs and shrugs her shoulders at her brother and he
rolls his eyes in return.
JADE:
Have you seen it through a
microscope yet?
EDWARD:
Yeah... NO... I don’t care about
some stupid rock.
JADE:
Its interesting it looks almost
like its alive with the green glow
it produces.
EDWARD:
I think you have been watching to
many Science fiction movies.
JADE:
No its not that.
She stopped talking when they entered the park. She was far
to distracted by the crowd of people gathered in one area.
JADE:
Come on Eddy were here maybe we can
get on the news.
She smiles and begins trotting toward the event as she pulls
her brother behind her. Pushing past numerous people until
she spots the news reporter standing by her van.

JADE:
Lets find a good spot before there
all taken.
EDWARD:
Its a park everywhere is a good
spot.
Edward says sarcastically.
JADE:
Come on we still have ten minutes
before its supposed to happen.
She looks up at the green ball in the sky and smiles. She
had seen the same thing in a dream she had a week before the
meteor was ever mentioned and now here it was in front of
her eyes.
EDWARD:
You okay Jay you don’t look so
good.
JADE:
I didn’t tell you Eddy but I had a
dream about this. I saw the green
meteor the same one we are seeing
right now.
EDWARD:
So what are you saying Jay, are you
psychic now or something? You
probably saw it in the newspaper
and dreamed about it.
He laughed at her thinking that she was joking until he saw
how serious she was. He could see the fear in her eyes and
on her face.
JADE:
Something horrible happened in my
dream Eddy. Something really bad
and I am afraid I am not awake.
Her eyes cloud with fear and she looked to be on the brink
of tears. Suddenly someone speaks and points toward the sky.
EDWARD:
Open your eyes Jay its happening
you don’t want to miss it do you?
Edward pinches Jades arm and she yelps.

EDWARD:
See your not asleep otherwise it
wouldn’t hurt.
Jade looks up at the sky watching as the green glow gets
brighter then everyone hears a roar like thunder and the sky
above turns to night. Suddenly the sky is lit with tiny
green stars.
EDWARD:
What the hell was that?
JADE:
This is how my dream started.
EDWARD:
Your dream has nothing to do with a
stupid meteor.
JADE:
How do you know Eddy? I’ve heard of
people that can see the future its
not unheard of.
EDWARD:
Bull I don’t believe in that crap.
JADE:
Your right who has heard of a
burning sky. Its silly...
Jade laughs and shrugs before she returns to looking at the
green lights in the sky. Suddenly the sky changed from night
to a neon green the same as the meteor’s glow as it headed
to earth. Then to a purple suddenly the sky turned neon pink
and began to rain. It hit everyone standing around in the
crowd. The people were laughing and dancing as the pink ooze
sticks to there skin.
JADE:
What is this, have you ever seen
something so pretty.
Jade looks at her hand and it begins to sparkle a pink then
green as the liquid rolled through her finger tips. All of a
sudden it stopped raining and the sky became one large pink
flame. The sky looked like it was alive.
EDWARD:
What happened next in your dream
Jay?
(CONTINUED)

He asks in a terrified tone of voice. Jade looks over at her
brother. Jade lifts her hand to the sky and catches some
neon pink water that ran off the leaf in front of her.
JADE:
I don’t remember Eddy but I know it
wasn’t good. I have a bad feeling
about this.
Edward sighed and Jade grabbed his arm forcing him to run to
the nearest shelter, a park bench area. Looking up at
through the burning sky. They realize the moon is now a neon
green.
WOMAN:
Whats happening an older woman
asks.
As a green drizzle starts to fall from the burning sky.Jade
jumps when she hears a piercing scream come from another
woman. Everyone looks to where they heard the scream
originate from and find a woman pointing at a man who looks
to be dead on the ground. Which in turn makes everyone
panic.
JADE:
Get out of the rain.
Jade screams at the crowd as they split up and run in all
directions when the green rain begins to burn there skin.
EDWARD:
It’s no use Jay they can’t hear you
and there to scared to listen.
EDWARD:
Jade come back.
Edward yells as Jade dashes over too the man on the ground.
Before she knew it her curiosity got the best of her. She
plops down in the muddy pink puddle. Her black jeans now had
sparkly pink blotches all over her clothes. She reaches down
with her pinky and touches the pink ozz.
EDWARD:
Jade what were you thinking running
off like that, are you crazy?
Edward starts wiping at his skin as the rain showers down on
him. Like acid rain.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 9.
JADE:
Sorry Eddy just thought maybe I
could help.
The old man looked like he was peaceful sleeping as the pink
ooze poured down on his frail body.
EDWARD:
Does he have a pulse?
Edward takes his coat and holds it over his sister Jade.
JADE:
I don’t know I didn’t check.
Probably would be a good idea huh?
Jade says sarcastically still in shock that she forgot to
check the man and see if he were still breathing. Jade
reaches in her pocket and retrieves a small mirror she liked
to carry around. She placed it under his nose to see if
there was breath.
JADE:
Hes breathing Eddy come on we need
to help him.
Edward lifts up the old man and carries the man to the
picnic area at a run. Jade looks at her brother
suspiciously.
JADE:
What the hell is going on Eddy?
EDWARD:
I wish I knew but we need to hurry
up and get this man to the
emergency room.
Jade pulls her phone from her back pocket and tries to dial
911.
JADE:
There is nothing, it won’t even
turn on.
EDWARD:
Nothing on mine either.
JADE:
This is just weird its almost like
this sludge has made them
nonfunctional.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 10.
EDWARD:
What do you think its is?
JADE:
Maybe it emits some kind of E.M.P.
EDWARD:
That’s crazy... right
JADE:
Why are you asking me I’m not an
expert.
EDWARD:
Yeah well your the one with the
dreams.
JADE:
Whats that supposed to mean it was
a freaky dream okay? That’s all it
was.
OLD MAN:
uggg... what happened?
JADE:
We found you in the mud.
OLD MAN:
Why was I in the mud?
EDWARD:
You must have passed out or
something.
OLD MAN:
Maybe I had a spell my ol ticker
ain’t what it used to be.
EDWARD:
Yeah well your lucky my sister was
nice enough to save you in this
weather.
OLD MAN:
Whats wrong with the weather boy?
EDWARD:
Well Sir can’t you see whats
happening?

JADE:
What my brother is saying is did
you hear what happened?
Jade says realizing the man is blind.
OLD MAN:
Well I heard a commotion and that’s
about it. My wide was with me do
you know what happened to her?
He asks hopefully and Edward shakes his head in response.
Jade elbows him and points at her eyes and his.
JADE:
No sir we didn’t see where she
went.
OLD MAN:
Can you tell me whats all over me?
EDWARD:
We don’t know that one either.
OLD MAN:
You don’t know much do you son.
Jade stifles a chuckle and looks at her hot headed brother.
Edward who opened his mouth to speak and close it instead.
EDWARD:
I know more then you old man....
Jade glared at her brother and he gave her a confused
expression shrugging his shoulders like he had no idea what
she was hinting at.
JADE:
Come now lets get you to the
hospital and well go from there.
The old man nods his head and stands up from the bench as
Edward and Jade help him down as best they can.
FADE OUT
UNEXPECTED OUTCOME
Edward lifts the old man in his arms and they begin walking
down the road in the direction of there house after the
green rain stops Jade directs him on where to go.

OLD MAN:
This is mighty nice of you kids,
whats your names?
JADE:
Well sir my name is Jade and this
is my brother Edward.
OLD MAN:
Edward huh? I knew an Edward he was always getting into
trouble. The old man clears his throat and coughs into his
hand taking a seat on a small bus stop bench.
EDWARD:
I’m sure you knew a lot of people
in your life old timer.
Edward said sarcastically and Jade glares at him.
JADE:
What is your name mister?
OLD MAN:
James Dodge Williams but my friends
call me Dodge.
Dodge smiles in the direction he believes they are standing.
EDWARD:
We need to get moving before the
acid rain comes again.
JADE:
What acid rain?
EDWARD:
you didn’t feel it when you were
helping him?
Edward points down at the old man Dodge.
EDWARD:
Do you see the small blisters on my
skin? That’s from the green rain. I
don’t know whats going on but what
ever it is... I’m really starting
to freak out.
DODGE:
Don’t be a chicken boy tell us what
your thinking.
(CONTINUED)

JADE:
Edward we didn’t have acid rain, it
was normal aside from the colors.
Jade starts examining her skin and then looking at her
brothers and Dodges. Edwards skin has small blisters forming
on his skin.
EDWARD:
What is going on Jay you don’t have
a mark on you?
Jade looks at her arms expecting to find a burn she hadn’t
noticed. There was nothing on her skin or the old mans not
even a blemish nothing but the pink liquid.
JADE:
That is strange we need to get to
the hospital and get Dodge checked
out. We can see mom while we are
there.
EDWARD:
Good Idea maybe she has heard
something.
JADE:
I think we should stop by the house
first.
EDWARD:
Yeah we don’t want to be caught
outside during another storm who
knows what the next will bring.
JADE:
I wonder if the news has said
anything about whats going on
someone must know something.
Jade sigh’s in frustration as Edward carries Dodge through
the fenced area that leads to there home. Jade opens the
door and goes into the house. Looking at the clock on the
way in. it was a little past 1:00pm and the house was dark
the only light she could see was the neon green sun beaming
through the window.
JADE:
Someone must know something,
Someone has to know what happened
and why the sky is on fire. Is this
the end of the world?
Jade said her voice shuttering in fear.
(CONTINUED)

EDWARD:
No way, Jay don’t think like that
its only solar radiation or
something you know the government
will handle it.
JADE:
I pray your right Eddy.
Dodge groans a little and Edward sits him down gently on the
couch.
EDWARD:
I’m getting a soda do you want
anything Dodge?
DODGE:
Just a glass of water would be
wonderful.
JADE:
I can call your house if you like
and see if your wife made it home.
Jade takes the number from Dodge and leaves the room to find
the phone. Dodge and Edward sit in awkwardness not speaking
for what feels like minutes instead of seconds.
DODGE:
Whats wrong boy, cat got your
tongue?
EDWARD:
Yeah... I mean no I was just
thinking.
DODGE:
What are you thinking about?
EDWARD:
Hmm... Oh nothing Dodge.
Jade comes in the kitchen shaking her head.
JADE:
There doesn’t appear to be
anyone... I mean there was no dial
tone the phone is just dead like
our cell phone are.
DODGE:
Is the power out?
Edward flips the light switch nothing happens
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 15.
JADE:
Maybe the storm knocked out the
power. It was a pretty bad storm.
EDWARD:
Yeah and its still happening.
Edward pulls the curtain back exposing the winds and heavy
rain almost looking like a hurricane.
EDWARD:
What ever cause the storm has
messed up our weather.
JADE:
How odd... do you think this is all
from the meteor?
EDWARD:
I don’t know what to think
honestly. But, we need to wait for
the storm to pass before going to
the hospital. I just hope mom is
okay.
DODGE:
How’s it look outside boy?
Jade and Edward look at one another in a questioning gaze.
JADE:
Everything is fine its just a
little storm is all.
DODGE:
Sounds like more then a little
girl.
EDWARD:
Its storming outside and we have to
wait until it stops to be sure we
can make it to the hospital.
DODGE:
Is it that acid rain you were going
on about?
JADE:
Yeah its green rain almost looks
neon, but don’t worry we will be
fine.

Jade walks back into the kitchen and makes some sandwich’s
after looking in the fridge deciding that it was the only
thing that made sense to her seeing the storm outside. She
didn’t know how long they would be held hostage by the acid
rain outside.
FADE OUT
NEW ADVENTURES
Jade wakes on the couch wondering how she could have fallen
asleep. Edward is sleeping next to the old man who had
fallen asleep in the old recliner chair.
