“Get going. Move forward. Aim High. Plan a takeoff. Don’t just sit on the runway and hope someone will come along and push the airplane. It simply won’t happen. Change your attitude and gain some altitude. Believe me, you’ll love it up here.”
Thursday morning, how are you doing? You look great; sit a spell whilst I make some morning soup for those wanting a break from this crazy time. I’m glad you are here; friends are always welcome into my soup kitchen.
I worked from home until about 10:30, headed to our Indy office to have lunch with my Queen and one of our teammates. We had our all-staff call at noon; it’s good to see everyone; we have a great team of committed professionals; we are have built a dream team.
I left there and headed north to meet a young lady I had connected with at a recent Synergize event in Carmel. My friend Jason recommended I connect with her; his only reference point was “she has nine kids.”
I got to Starbucks early and grabbed my coffee; Fishers Starbucks does not allow anyone to sit, pick up only. Weird, but OK, I stood outside and waited on Sam to show up. She got there, and I shared our plight, we ended up heading to a Subway (a safe place from the virus), and we grabbed a table and began our journey of self-discovery.
Sams story is harrowing; it’s filled with tragedy and rebirth with a new attitude. She has started a nonprofit; she has a podcast; she gets fuel from helping others gain confidence. We sat for two hours and by the end were belly laughing about life and the silly nature of our world today. I did invite her podcast team to do one on top of our mountain, we will host her group, and our setting will make for an excellent visual experience for her viewers. I made a new friend yesterday; welcome to our circus Sam.
I headed back south to meet a friend for a drink. Along the way, we had our monthly management meeting. We recently got some excellent news; we talked about our 2021 plan, wrapping up 2020 with a bang and making sure our rocket ship had enough fuel for our journey. Our glistening machine has never been moister.
I met Jeff, a client since the ice storm of 2005. That’s 15 years; we have become friends, that happens a lot with me; I become someone’s insurance provider, and then when we meet, we find common ground. Jeff and I covered a lot of ground. We talked about a new political party forming in our country, one based on the constitution; the party would mandate term limits. All policy would be directed from our founding documents.
Jeff is a big Trump supporter; we both believe the media and his haters think he will just go away. We believe he will become unhinged, no longer tied to a party; he may start his own political party, will continue with rallies, 70 million people voted for him, he’s the hottest ticket in the land. For those that believe the era of Trump is over, I’m sorry, it’s just beginning.
I headed home to meet my Queen; we walked over to meet Bill and Esta; I met these folks at Blue Beards one night, they were new to town, and we became friends. Esta is a pottery maker; we are going to purchase some of her work. They have decided to buy a home in south FL, we will visit, and they will come to our mountain home.
I have five hours of training today. I’m investing in our company to try a new process. My friend Devin has been kind to organize his team and train Bay and me on a new automated prospecting tool he designed. I have ADDHTPT and so sitting for 5 hours will be a stretch, but I’ll do it, and then I’ll drive up and get my T-shot. We have dinner with Kurt and Julia tonight, Duane and Lynn tomorrow. We will head to see my Queen’s mother on Saturday and see the grandkid on Sunday.
Next week we will wrap up our year-end work, getting ready for the holidays. I think we will head down and hang out with our cousin over the new year. A few days on a beach sound delightful; my friend Greg will house sit and watch Parker Van Halen. He also has a new dog, Jimmy Chew; I’m sure they will become good friends. I have warned him about PVHT’s propensity to pass gas; he has accepted the challenge.
I got a couple of referrals yesterday; I passed them on to my team, they closed them, we are humming along, we are building something for the future. We can eventually begin to sell to our team, and they can continue our culture and continually improve on our machine we call Someday is Today, LLC. I’m in the twilight of my time in this position; I have plans for another life using this machine as a laboratory, testing, and tweaking my unique approach to risk management.
I’m the happiest man you will encounter today. My life is fantastic, and I apologize if yours is not. I spent my early work years building, climbing, adding, creating, and proving an unusual industry model. I owned my gig for 15 years before partnering with my Queen; that was the best business decision of my life, our company took off in 2012, and we continue on our upward trajectory.
Cheers to you and yours; I hope you find these words encouraging, maybe a little bombastic, but like Popeye, I am who I am. One thing Sam said yesterday was she appreciated my free form writing. I’m not following rules set forth by a broken educational system; I could craft an art form that fit my talents; calling this art is a stretch, but it is my way to express myself. I can’t play the guitar all that well, but I am improving. I can’t paint, sculpt, and my pottery becomes toothpick holders. This work is my way of expressing my thoughts; I hope you take something from every soup batch.
