The Salvation Army Steps Up Relief Efforts Following Hurricane Helene

In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, which left widespread destruction in its wake, The Salvation Army has been on the ground, providing critical support to impacted communities. The organization has mobilized resources to ensure that families affected by the disaster receive essentials like hot meals, water, cleanup kits, and much-needed Emotional & Spiritual Care.

As of last week, the death toll from the hurricane had risen to 200, and nearly 784,000 residents across the Southeast are still without power. The prolonged outages have caused widespread challenges, including the loss of food from grocery stores and homes, increasing the need for immediate relief. The Salvation Army has responded by deploying 73 mobile feeding canteens across some of the hardest-hit areas, including Florida, Georgia, West Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

The response has been significant. To date, The Salvation Army has provided:

  • 164,179 hot meals
  • 58,516 snacks
  • 95,511 drinks
  • 26,838 meal kits

Along with addressing the physical needs of survivors, The Salvation Army recognizes the emotional toll of disasters. That’s why its trained teams have offered Emotional & Spiritual Care to 9,549 individuals, helping them process the trauma and start their path toward healing.

As the recovery process continues, The Salvation Army remains steadfast in its commitment to these communities. The organization will continue to assess needs, adapt its services, and provide crucial support to families and individuals working to rebuild their lives.

Hurricane Helene’s impact will be felt for years to come, but thanks to the generosity of donors and volunteers, The Salvation Army is making a difference—one meal, one kit, and one comforting conversation at a time.
