Salute To My Father: Tuskegee Airman Ben “Flaps” Berry
Trained at the Tuskegee Army Airfield in Alabama, they flew more than 15,000 individual sorties in Europe and North Africa during World War II. ?Their impressive performance earned them more than 150 Distinguished Flying Crosses and helped encourage the eventual integration of the U.S. armed forces.??Prior to the Tuskegee Airmen, African Americans in the armed services during WWII, were relegated to kitchen duty or cleaning bathrooms and latrines
Some people say the story of my father, Tuskegee Airman Ben Flaps Berry, is Black History, but it is really the story of American History.?Rising from humble beginnings in the Deep South where he was exposed to suggestions that he was inferior this remarkable man was far more than a Tuskegee Airman.

11 个月It was nice to come across your story. My father, Jack Chin, was a DOTA (last class) and would have been there when your father was. He was primarily an SE fighter pilot (P-47D), as the 477th composite started focusing on PTO, he did his TE and was spending a lot of time co-piloting the B-25J's that your father was in.
