Salma Akter Story

As a young ambitious girl, I learn to dream like many other girls in the world. I always gasp for having wings to fly and see the world in my own ways. Seeing the world through my eyes and fulfilling my dreams were always my desperate ambitions. But not all the journey and dreams are sweets. As an elder daughter, I had to take responsibility of my family after my mother was murdered by five people. My father who is a heart patient can barely manage the family. Sometimes I feel like the walls are closing in, but I always gasp, gasp for breaking through the struggle and see light of hope and feel the breeze of happiness in my skin. As I have said earlier not every girl’s dreams and journeys are sweets but I am out there in the world to tell my story so that the echo can be heard by the people who can really make a difference in my ambitious journey.

I am Salma Akter, daughter of Salek Gazi and Shuki Begum. I have a younger brother call Sayeem Gazi. I am 19 years old and I am studying in Grade-12 under Maria Cristina Foundation in short MCF. My family had no ability as they were broke to provide us education and other necessary things, but they always used to try their best to keep us happy. My family has always been on a constant struggle to fight with daily life to provide for their children specially my mother who would go an extra mile to keep me and my brother happy. Its my mother wish to make me and my brother highly educated so that we could have a life that they never had. My mother was the backbone of the family. For her dedication me and my brother hit a luck that is Maria. Maria came to our life as a hope. Maria founder of Maria Cristina Foundation helped us in every single way a person could be helped. She taught us to dream big, to fight against all odds, to never give up, to chase until it’s ours. She showed me and my family that there is lot more out there in the world and that’s when my dreams started to get big.

15th July 2017 a storm came and destroy everything that me and my family ever dreamt of. On that day, my mother was murdered by 5 rented people for money. We found my mother death body after couple of days, no justice was served to us.

This hit us specially me so hardly that the pain of losing my mother still haunt me because I was too close to my mother. As my mother was the backbone of the family, after her death everything was hollow and lost. My mother last wish was to see me and my brother highly educated and self-independent.Remembering my mother last wish, me and my brother holdingtightly on hope to fulfill my mother last wish.

I want to be an Aeronautical Engineer. It is one of my biggest dream in my life. Besides, cooking is my passion and I like to cook different delicious food. My hobbies are traveling and knowing the world in my own ways and seeing the world through my own eyes. I am also a sporty girl, very agile, friendly and proactive.

I am almost there to complete my grade-12 and soon I will go for higher my education. Its my dream to study abroad for my higher education as it was my mother last wish too. I have come this far by the help of Maria and all the sponsors known and unknown to me and I am thankful to all of them from the very bottom of my heart.

My life journey has many ups and down, sometimes I reach the point of extreme hardship but I didn’t give up cause I can still hear my mother last wish’s whisper and all the effort of Maria and sponsors who want to see me succeed. I will continue this journey till I reach the last goal and anyone of you who iswilling most welcome to be part of my journey cause I need you and you support to climb the highest mountain that is yet to come.
