SALESMATH 1.0: The true cost to get a B2B quality meeting?

After many years in sales and having an engineering background, the idea of sales math has always been interesting. Numbers like how many steps to get a meeting, how much time between sales stages is optimal, what is the cost of various steps, etc.. As part of that I did a basic poll of various organization to get a possible answer to this questions. "How much does it really cost to get a meeting with a key new target firm from a cold start?" What do you think of these numbers for a B2B quality meeting at a new target firm?

  • Middle tier firm (any industry but Financial was highest) $1,500-3,500 direct sales team depending on solution. Lead marketing efforts showed $2,000 to $5,000+. Lead email sequence tools showed about $1,000 to $2,000 but often does not include the internal costs to support these tools.
  • Tier one firm (get a senior person to meet) $4,000 to $7,500 for senior sales people reaching out, the only other approach was key conferences or events and that costs also could be $3,000 plus or more per good meeting.

If these numbers are mostly accurate it shows several things. Example; the total cost to get into 100 target firms, how important making that first meeting a success to get a return on this spend, the value of a good sales person as it drives down these average costs, etc.

What do you think?
