Talk of the Salesforce World right now is Lightning. What is Lightning actually and why all the people are going crazy behind this. Well till now all the salesforce developers might have came across this. Either their company is asking or their clients. Go for Lightning. But the question is .. WHY ???
Let’s find out ..
Let’s start with some definitions –
What is Salesforce Classic and what is Salesforce Lightning ?
Salesforce Classic : Classic as the name suggests, It’s classic. Classic is this interface and the group of functionalities that comes with it that we are used to in Salesforce that’s what we’ve working with for years. Salesforce Lightning : Lightning, as the name suggests, it is supposed to be fast. Lightning is the new interface Salesforce puts it. It’s not just the UI however, it is a new re-imagined Salesforce, a tool for the sales reps to maximize their productivity. I assume we all know what Salesforce Classic is, so will stop my talking on Salesforce Classic here.
Let’s dive into Salesforce Lightning and we will see the some of the features that come with lightning only that enables us to do some amazing things.
I assume every developer has an encounter with lightning till now and you might be knowing how to enable lightning in Salesforce Classic org. if not, follow the below the steps and get lightning ready – You may have noticed in your org ever since winter’16 release that you got this new setup menu on the left – .
So when we click on that it takes us to this page –
So this page has many things, you can go tab by tab and explore what are those, I am not going to discuss all those but please have a look on those I would suggest. I am going to talk about some important part of this. Second Tab : Check Readiness – This will help you to check whether your org is able to handle new lightning experience or not. The most important part and which is actual power of lightning is the fourth tab – Optimize with Features : In this tab you will find a number of options. This tab will give your sales reps the real power. Let’s see some of the options we have here to enable.
1. My Domain : This is important guys. It’s important to brand yourself. Creating a domain will also boost up the security level for your org.
“Add a sub-domain to your Salesforce org URL with the My Domain Salesforce feature. Having a sub-domain lets you highlight your brand and makes your org more secure. A sub-domain is convenient and allows you to personalize your login page.”
2. Social Accounts, Contacts and Leads : This feature is available in classic already however in lightning it has capability to connect with Twitter only and for those familiar with these features allows us to connect individual and companies social media profiles to their records in Salesforce.
3. Notes : Notes has is a new feature in lightning and it gives us rich text capabilities. Now comes the real question-
IS LIGHTNING RIGHT FOR YOU ????
Some of the information that Salesforce has provided us with these charts and graphs tables and where the discrepancies are.
Salesforce Data

Sales objects: Accounts, Campaigns, Contacts, Contracts, Leads, Opportunities, Orders, Person Accounts, Price Books, Products, QuotesCalendar, Events, TasksService objects: Assets, basic Cases, Lightning Knowledge, Work OrdersCustom objectsChatter feeds, groups, and peopleSalesforce FilesOther Sales and Service objects
Salesforce has support for almost all kind of data for Lightning what they support in Classic except the last row – Other Sales and Service Objects. Other Sales and Service objects consists of Campaign, Campaign Members, Contracts, Forecasts, both collaborative and customizable Orders, Quotes, Person Account not yet available in Lightning. So if you’re using any of these it may not be quite the right time yet to switch to Lightning.

Everything with few new features. So you work on Accounts and Contacts – Go for lightning. It will give your Sales Reps all lot of ease will save a lot of time and it will definitely going to increase your company’s revenue a bit.
Opportunities

In the early time of Lightning, even Opportunity Team was not supported but the released after that they now support Opportunity Team but still a lot of important things are still missing.
Leads
Feature Lightning Experience Salesforce Classic

Salesforce has been working really hard to bring everything in Lightning which will give the user more flexibility to work. Lead is one of the most important part of Sales. In the early time of Lightning many of things were not available like Merge Duplicate Leads, Change Lead Owner to queue etc. Still some of things are not mentioned in the above table I would like to highlight and which is not supported in Lightning.
- Lead Campaign History
- Assign Leads to Campaign
There are many more things which I cannot write here in this small blog. Please go , get your developer org and play around it.
