Each year, Mansfield ISD honors a community partner who goes above and beyond to positively impact the lives of students, staff, and the district. The 2024 Ambassador of Education award was presented to Randall Canedy. ? Randall Canedy served as a school board member, where he passionately advocated for students, educators, and parents, ensuring their needs were met and their voices heard. He remains active in the MISD community by serving on committees, mentoring, and more. ? "His love for the kids and families of MISD shines through everything he does - they always come first," said Dr. Cantu. "Randall is more than deserving of being named Ambassador of the Year."

For many years now, I’ve noticed that working to improve, invest in, or (oddly) defend public education brings out the best in people. It’s a never-ending, ever-widening labor of love for young people, communities, and the idea of a functioning, or better yet, a vibrant democracy. Sometimes it’s hard to see an immediate, real-world impact, especially if you don’t work in the classroom or regularly visit schools (miss the good old days). But whether it's educators inspiring students and anchoring communities, advocates making sure the system works for everyone, or innovators of all types bringing new ideas forward, supporting the promise of a great education can be our best and most tangible expression of compassion, justice, and hope for the future. And I don’t think there’s ever been a time when we’ve needed more of that collective, teetering on existential, hope. I feel incredibly lucky to still be fighting the good fight, now with the brilliant team of education dreamers, believers, and storytellers at FINN Partners—a few months in already. Together, we’re showing that when we work in service of education from the many vantage points and undertakings our clients bring, we elevate not only educational progress and ideas but also each other. Stay hopeful, friends.
Julian Vinocur joins FINN Partners’ education team as a vice president leading work with a variety of higher education, K-12 curriculum and crisis clients. Julian’s career spans positions from the Alliance for Public Education to NYC Public Schools and the Fund for Public Schools, as well as the Association of College and University Educators and TNTP. Throughout his career, his work has centered on telling stories that establish the brand and authority of public education as a pillar of opportunity and democratic ideals. He has worked on various public-private partnerships to support the needs of educators and students in communities across NYC and the U.S.

Our Executive Vice President of Strategy, Duanecia Evans Clark, recently testified in support of H.B. 5436 and SB 380, highlighting the urgent need for reform in educator certifications and school discipline. We're pushing for teacher certification processes that prioritize recruiting and retaining diverse educators, as well as fair and developmentally appropriate discipline policies. Our goal is to ensure that schools are equipped with culturally competent teaching staff who can implement these policies effectively. With most districts in the state having less than 5% educators of color despite a student body that is over half students of color, it's clear that change is needed. Research shows that all students benefit from learning from Black teachers during their elementary education. At FaithActs, we're actively using our voices to advocate for meaningful change in Connecticut's education system. By advocating for these bills, we aim to improve education outcomes for children in Connecticut. Visit https://bit.ly/49XMh4z to read more about our recent testimony.

It is personal!
“It’s personal.” LaTonya Goffney’s passion for literacy started with her grandfather. “Tonya, if you can read, you can go anywhere.” As superintendent of Aldine Independent School District (TX), Dr. Goffney is a stellar example of #LeadingWithLight. She led a process to overhaul her school system’s reading curricula. The path forward is now much brighter! https://lnkd.in/ghtGJDMa
