One of the few quotes I heard on a post IPL match show and couldn't help but wonder how similar it is to the B2B space.


Virat Kohli is the biggest star (rightly so), but has never won the IPL. Why?

Because he never had a Bumrah in the side to aid him.


Which teams have made it to the trophy?

? ????????????, with Bumrah, who not necessarily wears the Purple Cap (for most wickets) but enables the team to win.

? ??????????????, who happen to be the team with the least sixes but a MEAN bowling line-up

? ??????????????, in the hey days of Sunil Narine, who again never won the Purple Cap, and more recently when Mitch Starc blew away the opposition in the knockout games.


The sales guys are the superstars, and rightly so.

They get the contract(s) signed.

But if there isn't an able marketer who has the right strategy in place, your team will struggle.

That is why you need to make marketing a priority sometimes, and at other times, the marketing guy/girl need to be okay with the "Best Actor in Supporting Role" title.

That's how you win!


And that is the culture that will help you achieve the targets you in sight, both long term and short term.

Sales and marketing, much like batsmen and bowlers, need to understand each other's role and importance.

Once they do, and work in unison, there's no stopping them from winning the annual league :)
