After 30 years in sales, selling in many industries and honestly doing every sales course out there! (well almost!|), I came back to a very simple theory - that sales is more human than we realise. Not only that, if we just focused more on the human skills, we could be more successful at sales, and make it a thing of enjoyment and you may even love it too! I do ??
This week's blog is all about mindset - arguably one of the most important things to us as humans and of course a wonderful asset in being a great salesperson.

Your mindset plays a pivotal role in how you run your business, build an audience, and create a good sales and selling strategy. In its simplest term, your mindset is a collection of your thoughts and beliefs which shape how you feel, think, and act. But how does this influence your business sales?
Loving what you do is a solid place to start. If you don’t love what you do, how can you expect people to buy whatever product or service you are selling?

Are you in love with your business?
Does your answer come quickly, or have you lost your sparkle somewhere? Running a business is hard work and there are multiple facets that need your attention. There may be a couple of areas that don’t bring you joy, which is natural, but on the whole, do you still love what you do?
My passion and love for sales grew from watching my dad run his newsagent’s shop when I was a young girl. Everyone knew John, and John knew everyone too. Back then, life revolved around community. We, as humans, are at our happiest when we have a sense of belonging, and my dad’s shop provided that for anyone who walked through the door.
Connecting my audience with my ‘why’ helps them get to know me, which will hopefully evolve into trust. This is the power of?storytelling , and this particular story is part of my Unique Human Proposition? (UHP). It’s my story, unique to me, but still resonates with my audience to evoke an emotional reaction from them.
You’ll hear me talk about staying curious all the time on my?webinars ?and that’s because embracing a growth mindset, and continuously learning benefits your entire world, not just your business.
To create a positive sales and selling strategy you need to master your mindset by connecting your why and passion with your products or services. Do you offer a service that helps people in your community, or does your product allow you to work around your family commitments?
How to master your sales mindset
There are many ways you can master your sales mindset, but here are a few of my favourites.
Authentic selling
In my book?Live It Love It Sell It,?I talk about ideal client work in terms of emotions around their issues and goals. This allows you to provide them with solutions that match their emotional needs, leading to a greater connection.
They feel?heard ?and understood.

Here’s an exercise I love sharing.
Spend five minutes picturing one person you would love to work with. Imagine yourself stepping into their shoes for 24 hours. What’s lacking for them? What are their challenges? What do they need that you can provide?
When you fully understand who your ideal client is, you can begin to engage with the right people, using the messages and solutions they need to hear. You need to engage with them on that human-centered level.
Q: How can you stand out from the crowd?
A: By showing up as your authentic self.
Know your UHP - Unique Human Proposition?
Unique Human Proposition? ?is a phrase I created following years of being taught that sales was all about your USP – Unique Sales Proposition. Over the years buyers became smarter, more informed and we had to change how we sell and consider that the buyer is actually King!
What sets you apart from other businesses? When I developed the Unique Human Proposition? Programme, it was to help business owners understand the importance of a customer journey. I used over 30 years of sales experience in various sectors, and in various sales roles including Director Level, with small and large corporations to put together my big picture strategy.
People buy people. Our emotional wants and needs influence our buying decisions, and we crave human connection as part of that customer experience.
Turn obstacles into opportunities
At a recent talk, I was asked for advice on facing rejection. It’s an interesting topic to cover as what you label as rejection, someone else might refer to as an opportunity for change or development.
Try connecting with the belief cycle of thoughts, feelings, and actions, followed by results! Stop listening to your negative mindset and take the necessary action toward a more positive and authentic mindset.
Taking the rough with the smooth and embracing a more?positive mindset ?gives you the tools you need to start turning those challenges into successes. By understanding how?your?mindset influences your thoughts, feelings, and actions you can begin to influence your sales and selling techniques.

2 年I'm a firm believer in the UHP, Jules. I have a 25+ years sales background. But I find it infinitely more difficult selling my own services as a one woman band. I find the more myself am, the more my authenticity attracts the right clients to me. ??
