Sales Professionals Are Project Managers

Sales Professionals Are Project Managers

Hi, it's Ben Lai from Sales Ethos. Today I'm continuing on the series on The Many Hats that Sales Professionals Wear. Today's hat is the project manager. Now as much as sales people hate this, we are actually responsible for making things happen once we actually close the sale. You can't just handball it to someone else and expect them to do everything, unless you happen to have a very efficient system that allows you to do that. So for the most part, for most sales professionals, you need to actually be engaged in the project management aspect of the sale. I'm going to give you three suggestions on how you can do this more effectively in your role.

How sales professionals are project managers: Make buying seamless

The first thing is that when sales are closed, you need to make sure that everything is seamless for your client. You need to project manage your internal stakeholders and get them involved to make sure that the client receives what was promised. This means that you need to delegate effectively and set timelines for when things need to be done and follow up when things are not done. While this is technically not a sales KPI, key performance indicator, it is something that we do need to take responsibility for if we want to get the best results for our clients.

How sales professionals are project managers: Coordinate internal & external stakeholders

I've kind of run through a couple of ideas there. So making sure that the client receives what they promised and collaborating with your internal stakeholders as well as the external stakeholders. You need to actually manage the expectations from the other side. You need to set them tasked because sometimes they need to do a few things in order to implement your product. And finally, you need to take responsibility for the timelines and make sure that everything is delegated properly and that you're following up with them.

Just as a quick side note. If you are a sales professional or entrepreneur or a sales manager, you're looking for ways to improve your results, I offer a complimentary consultation. So please leave a comment below or send me a note via the link below and we'll explore whether we can work together or not.
