Sales as a path to personal growth

Sales as a path to personal growth

There's a fascinating pattern I've been seeing in many of the conversations I have with people in sales recently:

A career path in sales and a desire for personal development often go hand in hand.

These people are genuinely excited about selling for reasons that go far beyond making a sh*t ton of $$. Sales offers an opportunity to master a craft and get paid, while also providing a canvas for transformation. And people are really digging it.

The things required for you to be a great sales professional are also at the core of leadership and personal development:

  • relating and truly connecting to others
  • focusing on your mental and emotional health
  • having something to study, learn, and practice
  • being part of a team that works for something beyond just you
  • making a massive impact on the world
  • bringing your mission to life by influencing others
  • meeting incredible people

These folks are already prioritizing their own growth and development, but also getting to double dip by linking it so closely with their work and career path. They are building empathy, growing resilience, developing grit and determination, receiving mirrors and reflections every day, mastering listening, and enhancing their own authenticity.

It's no wonder so many sales professions go on to become executives and entrepreneurs. The work we do, day in and day out, is sculpting our future selves. Sales is the training ground for us to grow stronger, smarter, and more connected.

Here's to all of you who have committed to not only building your sales skills -- but to also building yourselves along the way!

P.S. This newsletter is inspired by the amazing people who came down to Austin this past weekend for our most recent Arise 3 day Immersion. It was such a powerful event for all in attendance. We only have 4 spots left for our next immersion in August and then there won't be another one until the end of the year. If you are even remotely considering joining us at a future event, please get on my calendar ASAP: let's chat

The paradox of having a vision and remaining present

Alex gives us a look into the cyclical nature of history and its impact on today’s tech, sales, and leadership landscapes. He reflects on past revolutions and civil wars, connecting them to the present-day emergence of AI, cryptocurrency, and environmental challenges. Alex also tackles the paradox of pursuing goals while remaining present, offering insights into becoming an ‘alluviant leader’—one who masters their craft through authenticity and presence. This is a call to embrace the process of self-discovery and to lead by example, inspiring you to do the same as we approach a new paradigm predicted for 2030.

Absolutely agree! Sales is not just about closing deals, it's about building relationships and continuously improving oneself. It's great to see the next generation recognizing the value of sales as a tool for personal growth and transformation.
