"Sale" Into The Future

Ever since high school, I had always believed that my life and career choices would involve healthcare. I have always enjoyed learning about humans and the way we operate.

After taking courses at Simon Fraser University and completing the Medical Office Assistant Program at Vancouver Community College, I was able to start working with patients and healthcare providers. It was while working at Vancouver General Hospital that I was exposed to business and marketing. Often times sales representatives would come by and speak to us about the newest products. I saw their job as an amazing opportunity to connect and network with so many people all over Vancouver.

After taking an interest in business, I decided to research about business professionals and what other opportunities it held. I ended up taking a few marketing courses at Kwantlen Polytechnic University that helped realize that this was my passion. After applying to British Columbia Institute of Technology, I was able to get into the Marketing Management Program.

During the end of my first semester, I was feeling a bit nervous knowing that I would have to take a sales skills course. Although I was exposed to it at work, I had no idea if I would be able to succeed in that class. I knew I was ready for a challenge, so after a few sales lectures, I was able to get a sales position at a bridal store to test my skills. My experience selling dresses to customers is what lead me to become more confident communicating with my friends and colleagues.

When I first approached the sales skills class at BCIT, I had no idea what was in store for my future. After completing the course, I came to realize that sales skills were a part of my everyday life. Whether it was for work, school, or even hanging out with friends, I managed to apply the skills I learned in class to many different situations in my life.
