Salary Negotiation with Mothers
Today my Mom was sharing Negotiation pointers to my sister which she can put Infront of HR while negotiating. The conversation was insane funny and I was thoroughly enjoying it with some of my inputs joining my mom's point just to tease my Sister.
The conversation was so deep at times, prompting me to reflect on how we often overlook our own strengths and thanks to mom she help us in realizing that. Of course our parents know us better than ourself.
I also can not deny the conversation was funny, majority of the time which put me in thoughts what if?#Mothers?actually go in the last?#HR?round for?#SalaryNegotiations.
So I asked?#ChatGPT?to write a conversation for this round in between Mother and HR's . And here it is:
?
HR: Thank you for coming Auntyji. I understand you
want a higher salary package for your son.
Mother: Yes, that's correct.
HR: Can you please provide some more reasons for why you think your son deserves a higher package?
Mother: Of course, I have plenty of reasons. First of all, my son has a very expensive taste in fashion. He loves to wear designer clothes and accessories, and he needs a higher salary to support his lifestyle.
HR: I see. Well, we do have a casual dress code here, so your son won't need to wear designer clothes.
Mother: Oh, but he likes to dress well even when he's not required to. Plus, he needs to impress his colleagues and clients.
HR: Alright, I can understand that. What other reasons do you have?
Mother: Well, my son is a foodie. He loves to eat at fancy restaurants, and he won't be able to afford it on a lower salary.
HR: Hmm, I don't think that's a valid reason to increase his salary.
Mother: But think about it, if he's not able to eat well, he won't be able to perform well at work. And if he can't perform well, it will reflect badly on the company.
HR: Okay, I see your point. What else do you have?
Mother: My son also has a lot of hobbies and interests. He needs a higher salary to pursue them.
HR: I'm not sure that's a valid reason either.
Mother: But if he can't pursue his hobbies, he'll become stressed and unhappy. And if he's stressed and unhappy, he won't be able to give his best at work.
HR: Alright, I understand. I think we can increase his salary by a small margin.

Mother: No, no, no. That won't do. He needs a significant increase to support his lifestyle, interests, and hobbies.
HR: Okay, okay. I see what you're getting at. Let me talk to my boss and see what we can do.
Mother: Thank you so much. I knew you would understand.
Mother: Thank you for understanding, dear HR. Now, I also want to talk about the benefits package.
HR: Of course, we can discuss that as well. What kind of benefits are you looking for?
Mother: Well, I think my child deserves a company car. You know, it's very hot in India and commuting can be such a hassle.
HR: A company car? I'm not sure we can offer that.
Mother: Oh, come on. It doesn't have to be a fancy car, just something with air conditioning. Maybe a little Honda or Toyota?
HR: I'll see what I can do. But I have to warn you, we usually only offer company cars to executives.
Mother: But my child is an executive in the making! And think of all the time and energy saved by not having to deal with traffic and public transportation.
HR: (laughs) Okay, you've convinced me. I'll put in a request for a company car for your child.
Mother: (triumphantly) Excellent! And while we're at it, how about a personal assistant to handle all those pesky emails and paperwork?
HR: (chuckles) I'm not sure we can afford that.
Mother: (playfully pouts) Oh, come on. My child needs to focus on the important tasks, like closing deals and making the company money. Plus, think of how much time will be saved not having to sort tHRough emails.
HR: (laughs) Alright, you win. I'll see if we can find a personal assistant for your child.
Mother: (beaming) Thank you so much! I knew you would understand the value of investing in a promising young executive.
HR: (smiling) It was a pleasure talking to you, and I hope your child will be a great asset to our company.
Mother: (winking) I have no doubt about that. Thank you for your time, dear HR.

1 年Amazing Parag Jaiswal; you've very rightly said "....how we often overlook our own strengths and thanks to mom she help us in realizing that....." & the ChatGPT was so insightful. "How would my/your mother handle this?" I have picked this up. Thanks!!
