Salary & Hourly Negotiations

Salary & Hourly Negotiations

Here is something to add to your tool bag. Keep in mind, an employer CANNOT ask you what you are currently making, but they can ask you what is your salary expectation or what is your hourly expectation.

Salary Negotiations

1. Research market value

·???????? Glassdoor

·???????? Robert Half

2. Consider additional benefits (depending on company, some are non-negotiable)

·???????? Work schedule

·???????? Remote, Hybrid, On-site

·???????? PTO

·???????? Stocks

·???????? Bonuses

·???????? Improved insurance benefits

·???????? Parental leave

·???????? Childcare assistance

·???????? Office space or position

·???????? Reimbursements for work-related education, travel, or products

3. Craft your pitch

·???????? Make a one-page brag sheet that highlights your concrete achievements, skill sets, and qualifications.

·???????? Base your pitch on your market value, rather than personal circumstances.

·???????? Highlight the pain points that you are uniquely positioned to solve for your employer.?

4. Rehearse your pitch

·???????? Use your mirror

·???????? With you spouse

·???????? With your kids

·???????? Record yourself and listen to it

5. Be Confident

·???????? If you did your homework, you have an idea what is the market value.

6. Stay Kind

·???????? DO NOT burn any bridges. The Recruiter or Hiring Manager you talk to may have roles that better fit your background and experience.

7. Negotiate your salary or hourly

·???????? Be ready to possible negotiate your salary or hourly.

8. Be firm, but be flexible

·???????? Know your worth and have a salary or hourly in mind.

9. Focus on your future

·???????? Will the role have an opportunity for growth

·???????? Will this role add more experience to what you currently have.

Thanks for sharing Rey!! I especially like the idea of writing a "brag list" and rehearsing it over and over. I'll definitely keep this in mind when the time comes for my next negotiation.
