Salary Attracts, But "Care" Will Retain your Staff

Being an international Head Hunter and supplier of talent nearing 20 years, one crucial insight I have learnt from talking with thousands of candidates and hundreds of clients, is that pay will attract, but if you wish to have awesome talent retention,?care?must be your focus.

As leaders and future leaders in our organisations, its our duty to also be nice and approachable showing that we care for our team.

I may just write a book about how many candidates over the years I have spoken with left a company, not for more money, but to get out of a toxic environment, bad management or total disorganised and chaos, to never having 121's meetings and given a clear structure on their career path and what it will take to get to the next level.

I believe having your team stay is mainly due to showing you actually care, what helps as a senior leader is to also hold yourself accountable, speaking with your team and asking what their goals and aspirations are, what do they want you as their leader to help them achieve. Showing up and taking action is the visual evidence that you care.

At Daniel Ernest, when we learn we have obtained a new job?because someone is leaving, we do not focus on the job role, we first focus on why that person is leaving to ensure our client has done all they can to keep them, then we focus on lessons learnt to help with staff attrition and only then we talk about back filling the position because we truly care to get it right. ?

So to help with talent retention, having a care culture is crucial.
