Saint-Gobain UK & Ireland publishes Gender Pay Gap Report for 2022

We have published our latest Gender Pay Gap Report covering four of our legal entities for the year 2022. The gender pay gap measures the difference between the average pay for men and women across our four legal entities in 2022 who qualify for reporting (ie. With more than 250 employees).

Comparing this year to 2021 there is no Mean or?Median pay gaps in two of our legal entities. The gaps are very minor or negative (men being paid less than women).

On the positive front in the remaining two legal entities the size of the mean pay gaps in these entities over the six years since we started reporting has reduced by nearly 50%. But there still exists a fundamental gap in the average (median) pay of men and women which we are not satisfied with, but we do believe underlying progress is being made. The median pay gap in 2022 shows a gap of between 16-23%.

Like many organisations in our sector, we face structural and historic issues of having more men than women in the organisation. In particular we have a disproportionate number of men to women in senior roles and in many of our manufacturing and production roles. Although we are working hard to address this we are yet to make a really significant impact on the gender mix of those who fulfil these important roles. This factor creates an underlying gender pay imbalance that can only be overcome by addressing the overall diversity of our organisation and in particular in our management populations and leadership teams.

We are achieving some success in recruiting women to previously male-dominated operational roles, and have many examples of women thriving and developing careers in senior roles across the business, including in operational management roles. We have recently achieved the target of having 30% women in our management population, and have strong female representation on leadership teams in the majority of our businesses. These are indications of underlying progress but we still have much to do on our structural gender imbalance and before we will be able to eradicate our gender pay gaps completely.

The work we have been doing over the last two years also in areas such as establishing and developing diverse networks, recruiting differently and having a strong focus on recruiting for attitude are all supporting our desire to address these structural issues.

We are very proud of the direct feedback of our colleagues which we get via our annual colleague surveys. Again in 2022 these show a high level of recognition of our positive culture and values and a strong sense of pride from colleagues about working for Saint-Gobain (90%).

Saint-Gobain in the UK has received the Top employer certification for the 11th year in a row. We have a very strong focus on personal development, safety and colleague wellbeing and a clear and compelling purpose to Make the World a Better Home and meet our decarbonisation targets.?
