Sailing on Sunbeams

Today's image is an example of artistic license. It takes elements from different times and locations and places them together within the same frame, similar to what a painter or sketch artist might do. Both images, were originally created on slide film some forty five years ago when I was in my Senior year of High School. The final finishing touches were not done until this year. It symbolizes the ability to ponder our dreams, ambitions, and goals, both past and the future.

At the time I took the two original slides with a film camera the equipment, processes and techniques used to create this composite were not readily available to the consumer or were yet to be invented. Personal computers became available the very year these images were made. The first fully digital camera to be commercially released didn't come along for another fifteen years as did the software paint programs to create and manipulate digital files.

This image represents my personal journey of creative transition through the past, into the opportunities of today, and staying the course with my hopes and dreams, on the way to a brighter future. I'm sailing on sunbeams and I hope you find yourself doing the same, regardless of your station and situation, in life. It's a new year, a new day, a new moment, to create those things we hope for and dream of. Don't believe anyone who tells you your dreams are impossible or unreachable, but even more important, don't ever tell yourself you can't achieve your heart's desire.
