Sailing the “Internship”

This one goes out to all the Interns!

May, June & July are considered as the Internship months where the budding college students prepare themselves to transition into a blooming flower. Having done an #internship myself (during my post-grad), I know what a sea of emotions look like. Internships during studies are considered a not-so-happy experience. Why you may ask? The reasons are many. Some reasons that I thought would fit the bill are listed as follows –

1. The threshold that they have to cross for those 2-3 months.

2. The change in attitude that they have to bring in.

3. The introduction & application of the concept of work-life balance for the very first time.

4. The change in the environment from a relaxed college lad to an up to date professional.

5. Continuous reporting & monitoring.

6. The sudden workload.

Though they may feel this as a sudden load, it’s something that they will cherish in their upcoming career. Where ever they go, whatever job they land, they will have answers to a lot of questions, more than they can think of.

My giveaway to the interns is that it’s not going to be an easy ride. An internship will teach you what you need to do in a particular situation but more than that, it teaches you what not to do in a given scenario. Give your best, steer your way and try to learn as much as you can because not everyone would want to bring you out of your shell. Prove that a boat in an ocean can also do wonders. Trust me, you will be a proud, happy individual at the end of the day.
