Sage Perspective

Sage Perspective

Within each of us resides a wellspring of wisdom, strength, and clarity. This isn't some inaccessible entity.? This is your "most powerful, wise self" waiting to be better known and shared with the world.? How we tap into this inner sage is often unknown and does feel inaccessible.

I am deeply grateful to have been exposed to Leader Within and the Sage perspective so I could get to know this part of myself better.? I believe in an anchor to something or someone bigger than ourselves, and that does not diminish the possibilities that emerge when we tap into a more resonant version of ourselves.

One observation in my journey has been how spotlight avoiding I was for most of my life and career.? I find myself wondering if the values I was living into and out of were not mine and so I preferred to keep them and myself at the margins.? For a long time, I think what mattered to me most was winning and feeling good about myself morally, financially and professionally.? My actions demonstrated that these were my highest values.? If you’re asking yourself, what’s wrong with those things, maybe nothing if those are the things you care about most.? For me, those things were rewarded by others, but they were not what matters most to me and were not the facets of me that I really wanted to share with the world.? Uncovering and then addressing that dissonance is why the leader within work has been so transformational for me. My journey to more awareness and alignment can be over simplified to a “who” and “what.”? The “who” is a coach who challenges, guides, reflects and champions me.? The "what" is practicing increased awareness of whether I am listening to a saboteur or sage perspective and actively choosing.? If this type of growth is of interest to you, I’d like to offer some possibilities into how your own sage perspective might come into focus.

Step 1: See the Sage

Acknowledge that we are multifaceted.? Each of us has a multitude of ways of being and doing, and, yes, the wise sage is one of them. ? Practice becoming aware of and acknowledging all facets of yourself as they show up.

Step 2: Listen to the whispers

The voice of the sage can be subtle. Notice when intuition nudges you in a specific direction, maybe even contradicting logic.? Notice when inner peace emerges amidst turmoil.? Notice when compassion spontaneously flows towards yourself and others.? Notice when you experience a deep knowing without needing external validation.? If you’re a person of faith, each of these whispers may be the divine helping you gain wisdom, guiding you towards your highest potential.

Step 3: Cultivate the soil

Like any tender shoot, your sage needs nurturing. Here are some ways to cultivate this perspective:

  • Meditation: Quiet the mind and connect with stillness, creating fertile ground for wisdom to bloom.??
  • Journaling: Reflect, paying attention to what you’re doing and the values behind your decisions with awareness and without judgment.?
  • Get outdoors: Wisdom whispers through rustling leaves and crashing waves.
  • Serving: Extending compassion strengthens your own inner reservoir of wisdom.
  • Seek Inspiration: Surround yourself with wise teachers.? Learn from their stories, perspectives, and insights.

Once you gain connection with your sage, you may show up in different ways. ? Your words will reflect the clarity and depth of your wisdom more and more.? Your actions will align with your values more consistently, and you will likely become more decisive.??

This journey is ongoing, and you will experience setbacks. Embark on the adventure, listen to the whispers, and unleash more of what you have to offer.? The world is a better place when you shine brightly, one wise decision at a time.

The leader within that emerged for me is one I call Freely Loving.? When I generously show love to colleagues, clients, family members, friends and strangers, I experience alignment to what matters most to me.? There’s a resonant wisdom in being that way, and this part of me is what I crave to share.? In times of challenge, I anchor back to this sage and ask how he might show up.

Who is your leader within? What facet of you do you want to give most to those around you? What might be possible when that perspective shows up more often?

I would love to hear your answers and thoughts in the comments below! Let's continue to build a community of wisdom seekers.
