Safty of AirBags

Safty of AirBags

WATCH THE VIDEO

AirBags in trampoline halls (and now also in gymnastics halls) have emerged considerably in recent years. Fortunately, people have come to realize that an AirBag is safer than the unpredictable foam block box (which is often poorly maintained / shaken up).

Even though the AirBag has been in the picture for some time, I notice that the market has insufficient knowledge about how the product works and when it is safe for use and when it is not. As far as I am concerned, this applies to the owner, the employee but also to the judge.

Above all, an entrepreneur wants the park to be attractive and safe. It must comply with the rules and are further engaged in other matters. The (often young) supervisor is not busy with material and follows the rules of the location manager. The judge mainly checks what they see and can only check on the basis of a checklist. For example, it is inspected for:

1.??????????????Banners with rules

2.??????????????Product numbers and certificates

3.??????????????Wear on e.g. Velcro and the top layer

4.??????????????Lighting

5.??????????????Indent direction

6.??????????????Safety system in the event of air supply failure

And many other points.....

What is not inspected is the internal air pressure, and the time how long it takes before the AirBag is 100% filled again after someone falls into it and the number of blowers / type of blower.

It can therefore happen that an AirBag at 0.1 mBAR is kept alive with 3 blowers and is approved based on what it looks like. For example, a 'control system' can be connected, but must have a lower limit. Otherwise, you'll jump into the AirBag and hit the bottom, and then the system won't work yet (because the power does).

So what is safe?

1.?Make sure that the AirBag stays on pressure with 1 or 2 blowers and no more.

2.?Make sure you know the internal air pressure of the AirBag, and you can also name it and check it regularly. This depends slightly per AirBag due to the building construction. AirTrack Factory uses the following air pressure advice for AirBags made by AirTrack Factory: at least 3mBAR as the lower limit, set to 4-6 mBar. These recommendations come from various fall tests.

3.?Make sure that the AirBag is back on pressure within a few seconds. So, in its original inflated form. This prevents that a 2nd child jumps too early, it does not end up in half an AirBag.

4.?Install an alarm system that works when the internal air pressure is too low. ?This way you know regardless of what the cause is (power failure, child climbing out of the AirBag, wear and tear etc) what the air pressure is and that it is sufficient when the alarm does not give a signal.

5.?Schedule your own inspection very regularly. Look at inspection points but also at the above points. Better safe than sorry.

The AirTrack Factory AirBag alarm system

This alarm consists of a control unit, light signal, sound/light signal. The control unit works on a battery. This causes the alarm to work during power outages. The control unit measures the air pressure by means of a thin hose that remains in the Airbag with a valve. For airbags that do not have a valve, AirTrack Factory can easily install a new valve on location. The valve ensures that the hose remains firmly connected.

Delay

The alarm is equipped with an adjustable delay when the alarm is triggered when there is insufficient air pressure. By default, this is set to 5 seconds. When the power goes out, there is still enough air in the Airbag for the first few seconds to absorb a possible jump. By means of the delay function, the alarm does not go off for the first 5 seconds and that is nice when, for example, a child steps out of the Airbag, then you temporarily have less pressure.

Adjustable volume

Not every park is the same and not every park has the same ambient sounds. As a result, it is nice to be able to turn the sound down a bit at a smaller park. The light signal is clearly visible and the light/sound signal flashes. This makes it stand out!

The alarm light should be in a location that stands out!???????

The control unit must be hung in a location that is clearly visible or in a technical room next to the AirBag that is easily accessible!

ATF AirBags start being produced new with an internal air pressure of around 12 mBAR. During installation, some air valves are opened so that the desired air pressure of 4-6 mBAR can be achieved. After a few years and wear, valves can be closed so that the air pressure increases again and 1 blower is still needed. Optionally, a 2nd blower can also be connected to make even longer use of the AirBag.
