SafetyTech News | Issue 040

Wow! 40 Issues of SafetyTech News!!!! If you've been following from the start - fist bumps and high fives to you. If you're new here, a tip of my hat. SafetyTech News is a curation of the latest news on data, technology and innovation - all with a dedicated focus on improving the design, experience and safety of work. I'm your Ed. Cam Stevens ; if you have something newsworthy - be sure to tag me or slide into my DMs. Let's get started.

A few words on "AI Safety"

Safety in the world of AI is different to workplace health and safety - you may be more comfortable with the term AI Risk Management - generally I use the term Responsible Innovation which encompasses the safe, ethical and sustainable integration of technologies.

In any case there has been a massive spike in "AI Safety" news lately. Those who work in OHS know all too well the tension between making money and managing safety. In the past few days, 13 current and former OpenAI/DeepMind employees published an open letter on AI safety called “A Right to Warn about Advanced Artificial Intelligence.” It highlights the same tension... More to come on this I'm sure.

Here's what Wired magazine had to say - A heads up and an apologies that this one is likely paywalled for some. Know that I always try to include paywall free content, forgive this exception.

The onboard autonomous capabilities, together with high specification instruments – including a laser scanning system and multibeam sonar technology – result in a detailed external inspection of subsea pipeline features.
