?? Safety over speed... Time to rethink pricing?
Taking a revolutionary step in the shared mobility industry, Bolt becomes the first major operator to introduce a new pricing framework for mobility services. Following a survey in Brussels that marked Belgians out as the worst scooter drivers, Bolt introduced a distance-based billing structure for its scooter sharing services, rather than pricing per-minute.
?Bolt hopes to promote safety through this change, discouraging users from speeding to cut costs. This new safety incentive will come into effect by the end of 2023.
Is this the future of safety for shared mobility operators?
?? Paris scooter ban one month on...
In Paris, Dott, Lime and TIER Mobility had anticipated the removal of their scooter fleets at the end of August by bolstering their bike fleets, which are now more than twice the size (17,000) that they were last year (8,000).
One month later, Fluctuo looked at the data to see whether users actually made the switch from shared scooters to shared bikes. Monthly dockless bike ridership has more than doubled in 2023 vs 2022. Trips per vehicle per day (TVD) has also improved significantly, from 2.2 in Sept 2022 to 3.4 in Sept 2023.??
Maxim Romain, COO of Dott, remarks that multimodal users have switched entirely to shared bikes, whilst biking only partially compensated for scooter demand from Parisians who exclusively used scooters. It's clear to see that shared services can adapt to shifts in the market.
?? More vehicles, fewer services...
Tenders are on the rise, and the shared mobility market is seeing increasing changes as more and more cities are clamping down on the number of operators.
Fluctuo's Q2 European Index takes a close look at how the shared mobility industry is shifting. Tracking the developments in the mobility space over the past 2 years across 16 European cities, our report examines recent evolutions in shared mobility services.
