Safety
Today's devotional is from Your Life Matters: Daily Reflections from the Psalms
"You, Lord, will keep the needy safe and will protect us forever from the wicked, who freely strut about when what is vile is honored by the human race" - Psalm 12:7-8.
Today's passage contains a vivid and accurate description of modern society: the evil freely strut about because many honor and exalt what is vile. The problem is that as they strut, they also persecute and dishonor those who walk in righteousness. The promise in the verse, however, provides comfort: the Lord protects His people in the midst of the madness.
Jesus reiterated this promise when He said: "I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one" (John 17:4-5).
Are you nervous over the state of the world? Has it caused you to alter your lifestyle, or do you just keep the anxiety, fear, and perhaps even anger in your heart? Can you see that the wicked are doing what they've always done? The good news is that God is watching and has promised to protect and preserve you!
