Safety First: Jim's West Steaks & Hoagies Enhances Security Measures for Its Patrons
Philadelphia's beloved cheesesteak joint, Jim's West Steaks & Hoagies, is taking security to the next level. Regulars and newcomers alike will now be greeted by armed private security guards as they queue up for the city's famed sandwiches.
Co-owner Cortez Johnson addressed the sudden surge in crime, explaining, "The violence has spiked. It's unpredictable. Our primary goal is to ensure our customers feel safe when they step out to enjoy a meal. We want them to relish their food without the shadow of potential harm looming over them."
Saul Landers, the CFO of Jim's West, emphasized the restaurant's commitment to its patrons. "Our lines often stretch down the block. We want every individual, whether they're regulars or first-timers, to connect and interact in a safe environment. That's why we have security present—to assure our patrons of their safety."
However, the restaurant's reopening and new security measures have sparked mixed reactions. While many applaud the effort to prioritize safety, some question the need for such a robust presence.
One local resident remarked, "If it deters crime, it's hard to argue against it. I might not be comfortable around firearms, but I understand the rationale."
Kevon Darden, who heads the private firm Presidential Protection Services overseeing the security, assured the community of their intention. "Our presence is purely for protection. We're not here to intimidate or flex our power. Our guards are highly skilled, and many have backgrounds in law enforcement, military, and are certified by the state."
Indeed, patrons can expect the added security from Thursday to Sunday during operating hours.
Despite the debate, the combination of delectable food and an enhanced safety promise continues to attract customers. Nitah Dunham, a resident of West Philadelphia, voiced her appreciation, "The food has always been impeccable. Pair that with safety, and you've got a winning combo."
While it's yet to be seen how these measures play out long-term, one thing is clear: Jim's West Steaks & Hoagies is committed to serving its community, both in taste and safety.
